Job Overview Communication is the lifeblood of military operations, and as a Signal Support Systems Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring this vital flow of information. Your expertise will help maintain the operational readiness of Army National Guard units, keeping them connected and effective. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will: Maintain and enhance radio and data distribution systems. Perform essential signal support functions and provide technical assistance for computer systems. Deliver training and technical help for local area networks. Conduct maintenance on equipment, terminal devices, assigned vehicles, and power generators. Skills Development Throughout your training, you will acquire valuable skills, including: Understanding mechanical and electrical principles. Learning preventive maintenance procedures. Mastering line installation and wiring techniques. Familiarity with communication security policies and procedures. Essential Qualities The following interests will be beneficial for success in this role: A passion for working with electronic equipment. An enthusiasm for problem-solving and troubleshooting. Through your comprehensive training program, you will gain skills and experience that lay the groundwork for a rewarding civilian career in the electronics and communications fields. Completing additional study and gaining two years of industry experience can qualify you for certification as an Associate Certified Electronics Technician. In the Army National Guard, you earn a regular paycheck and can access tuition assistance for further education. Training Requirements The training for Signal Support Systems Specialists includes: 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training to develop foundational Soldiering skills. 18 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) that combines practical, hands-on experiences with classroom instruction.
