Job Description

Are you ready to push the boundaries of your potential? At Coinbase, our mission is to enhance economic freedom around the globe. This ambitious goal fuels our efforts as we develop the future onchain platform and shape the global financial system. We're on the lookout for a unique candidate who is passionate about our vision and believes in the transformative power of crypto and blockchain technology to modernize finance. If you strive to make a global impact, thrive in high-pressure environments, and seek constructive feedback for continuous improvement, you might be the perfect fit for our team. Our culture is demanding and may not suit everyone. However, if you want to collaborate with top professionals and contribute to groundbreaking projects, this is the place for you. While many roles at Coinbase allow for remote work, we value in-person collaboration throughout the year. We host team and company-wide offsite events multiple times each year to enhance teamwork and alignment. Attendance at these events is encouraged and well-supported. Data Science plays a vital role in Coinbase's product development and decision-making processes. In partnership with Product, Engineering, and Design, we influence our roadmap and deepen our understanding of user behaviors. With our expertise in experimentation, analytics, and advanced modeling, we deliver insights that significantly enhance the company's performance. As a Senior Data Scientist on the Platform team, you'll engage in high-impact, cross-functional projects that aim to improve safety, reliability, and usability at Coinbase while driving growth through informed decision-making and precise measurement. Your responsibilities will involve projects like identifying drop-off points and reliability challenges in essential user journeys, developing metric systems, and optimizing experimentation and causal inference techniques (including A/B tests and incrementality measures). Key Responsibilities: Analyze complex and ambiguous business challenges, delivering insights and recommendations that steer decision-making. Take ownership of a wide range of data and metrics, from core logging to presenting data visualizations. Lead code reviews, provide expertise in SQL and Python, and develop well-maintained ETL jobs. Set high standards for statistical rigor in your work, ensuring that experimentation and causal analyses foster confidence among stakeholders. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Math, Stats, Physics, or Computer Science) with 5+ years of related experience, or a PhD in a quantitative field with 3+ years of relevant experience. Proven experience in driving impactful data science projects addressing ambiguous problem spaces. Ability to influence stakeholders by crafting compelling narratives from data insights. Hands-on expertise in applying complex modeling techniques to real-world business scenarios. Professional experience with SQL and Python. Experience working with digital products within iterative development cycles. Demonstrated adherence to core cultural values: clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, and efficient execution. Note: Application for a specific role does not guarantee consideration for that exact position. Leveling and team alignment will be evaluated during the interview process.
