New Business Conflicts Analyst Cooley is on the lookout for a skilled Conflicts Analyst to join our Business Intake and Conflicts Team. This pivotal role will involve the identification, analysis, and resolution of conflicts requests, helping to ensure our firm operates smoothly and ethically. Position Overview: As a Conflicts Analyst, you will handle conflict requests with independent judgment, ensuring that all firm engagements and hires are ethically and legally clear. Your specific duties will include: Analyzing and processing conflict requests to guarantee firm's compliance with business ethics. Preparing database search terms and generating conflicts reports for all related parties, including high-volume and bulk searches. Conducting corporate research to validate the identity of related parties and manage potential conflict issues. Identifying existing and potential conflicts by reviewing conflicts reports and associated documents. Interpreting database results and conflicts reports for firm partners and other stakeholders. Documenting a clear, comprehensive overview of potential conflicts based on professional conduct rules. Regularly communicating with partners and providing updates regarding conflict clearances. Maintaining detailed records of conflict resolutions for each request. Requesting waivers for matters needing consent and confirming the resolution of conflicts. Drafting conflict waivers and engagement letters when necessary. Advising attorneys on complex requests and any unique circumstances. Creating and implementing ethical screens as needed. Staying informed about legal trends and conducting research in conflicts case law and legal ethics. Providing training on conflicts issues for secretaries and other team members. Fulfilling additional responsibilities as assigned. Skills and Experience: Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and other firm applications following initial orientation at Cooley LLP. Willingness to work overtime, including weekends as needed. Expertise in IntApp Open, Contract Express, or similar software. 2+ years of relevant experience, particularly in a law firm, legal environment, or conflicts department. Familiarity with the American Bar Association's Model Rules of Professional Conduct and California State Bar Association's rules. Solid understanding of corporate law practices. Experience in legal and corporate research. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree or JD preferred, with a strong background in conflicts resolution. Paralegal Certificate or completion of an ethics course in a paralegal program is a plus. Prior experience as a paralegal or legal researcher in a law firm. Competencies: Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and organizational abilities. A keen attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Comfort in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Skill in managing multiple tasks and time-sensitive issues. Professional communication with attorneys and management. Excellent customer service skills. The expected hourly pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00 ($72,800.00 - $104,000.00 annually). Final offers will depend on location, experience, and skills.
