How You'll Make an Impact As a Lead PHP Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in modernizing and enhancing the performance and stability of WEX FSM. Your expertise in the Symfony PHP Framework will be invaluable as you refactor and improve existing features, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and maintainable. Your deep knowledge of data persistence will position you as a subject matter expert, especially with Doctrine ORM, which will be essential for optimizing complex queries and eliminating performance bottlenecks. You will engage deeply with MySQL to analyze execution plans and refine indexing strategies, striving to deliver a faster and higher-quality user experience. Experience You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience is acceptable. 5+ years of hands-on experience developing applications with PHP, Symfony, and RESTful APIs. Demonstrated mastery of Doctrine ORM or similar ORM, showcasing skills in DQL, QueryBuilder, caching strategies, and resolving N+1 problems. Strong passion for MySQL query optimization, with proven capability to analyze execution plans (EXPLAIN), optimize schemas, and implement efficient indexing for high-volume datasets. Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and methods. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases. Solid understanding of microservice design patterns and best practices. Experience with API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger preferred) and a capacity to drive architectural decisions through well-documented designs. Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and containerization tools such as Docker. A strong grasp of automated testing principles and practices (e.g., unit testing, integration testing, contract testing). Exemplary communication and collaboration skills while working with internal and external teams. Act as a technical leader for the team, facilitating onboarding for new hires, and conducting code reviews that reinforce established coding standards and best practices.
