The Role Robotics User Experience Lead As the Robotics UX Lead, you will be the driving force behind our user experience initiatives across GM's robotics portfolio. This pivotal role connects UX design, robotics engineering, and product management, fostering a seamless human-robot interaction. You will direct multiple UX teams, influencing how users interact with, understand, and trust robotic systems. Your mission includes defining an organization-wide UX vision, and leading the development of standardized interaction patterns and design guidelines. Your work will significantly impact user safety, efficiency, and technology adoption within our robotics ecosystem. What You'll Do Define and guide the enterprise-level UX strategy for robotics solutions, informing long-term direction and aligning investment with GM's business objectives. Create an intuitive interaction model for human-robot workflows that can be applied across diverse environments. Advocate for usability, ergonomics, and safety, prioritizing user-centered design in all aspects of human-robot interaction. Collaborate with leadership in product and engineering to set priorities for UX investments and define key performance metrics tied to user satisfaction and safety. Leadership & Team Management Lead and develop multidisciplinary UX teams, ensuring an effective mix of talents to meet strategic goals. Establish and promote design standards across robotics UX, driving consistency and efficiency in various projects. Create and oversee workflows for program management, allocating resources to maximize impact. Manage organizational design and workforce planning for the Robotics UX function in partnership with HR. Collaborate with finance and leadership to optimize UX-related budgets based on value and impact assessments. Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, exemplifying inclusive leadership practices. Experience Design & HRI Lead the design of user interfaces for robotic systems, translating complex functions into user-friendly workflows. Ensure designs adhere to safety standards while enhancing the user experience in shared workspaces. Work closely with industrial design and systems engineering to create harmonious physical-digital interactions. Ensure alignment of UX patterns across teams, enhancing collaboration in manufacturing and operational processes. Research, Testing & Validation Conduct user research to gauge needs and behaviors, shaping future product iterations. Supervise usability testing and simulations to refine interactions before scale implementation. Coordinate with safety and operations teams to evaluate and enhance human-robot collaboration metrics. Translate user research findings into actionable design improvements and roadmaps. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work alongside engineering, safety, manufacturing, and software teams to align user experience with operational feasibility. Define user requirements and launch strategies alongside product management. Collaborate with support teams to provide clear guidance across all user touchpoints. Influence senior stakeholders to adopt new UX standards and drive departmental changes for enhanced user experiences. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in UX or product design with 5+ years in leadership roles within complex technical environments. Proven track record of driving UX strategy with measurable outcomes across products. Experience with designing for complex systems, ideally in robotics or industrial automation. A strong portfolio showcasing UX projects that demonstrate problem-solving, research, and design impact. Collaborative experience in agile development settings. Exceptional communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences. Proven ability to scale and develop UX teams effectively.
