General Position Summary & Responsibilities: The Rolling Mill Shift Leader will oversee a dedicated team responsible for the safe and efficient production of high-quality steel products. This role offers a dynamic work environment with the primary aim of achieving excellence in every aspect. By delivering top-notch products safely and efficiently, we aim to minimize accidents while boosting profitability. Salary Wage: $100,000 to $150,000 Annually Essential Functions Plan and supervise the rolling mill crew to produce quality steel products aligned with customer and CSRM specifications. Communicate effectively with shipping/finishing foreman and quality metallurgical technicians on production and quality issues. Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule downtime for repairs and minimize production losses. Ensure a safe working environment by identifying and addressing unsafe conditions, and educating employees on safety protocols. Train and guide crew members on their tasks, fostering teamwork and leveraging individual strengths. Oversee the guide shop to confirm proper stands and guides are constructed for ongoing product rolling. Inspect and authorize all stands built in the shop. Maintain clear communication with other rollers, guide shop foreman, general foreman, and superintendent regarding crew and mill performance. Utilize company web quality systems and adhere to quality procedures as per training requirements. Lead monthly safety meetings and ensure adherence to health and safety policies. Administer training for all crew positions and maintain employee training records. Address any deficiencies in policies or procedures and execute contingency plans as necessary. Interpret blueprints and spreadsheets for changeovers effectively. Approve timecards, manage accident reports, and oversee vacation requests and discipline within the crew. Conduct crew safety meetings regularly. Perform additional duties as assigned. Performance Standards Effectively supervise the rolling mill crew to maintain high production levels and reduce downtime. Adhere to all safety regulations while performing work tasks. Ensure no risk of harm to self or others in the workplace. Maintain open communication with other departments and staff as needed. Meet project deadlines while averaging 12-hour (4 days on, 4 days off) and 8-hour shifts (day, swing, graveyard). Adapt to potentially repetitive work and varying tasks during shifts. Maintain attention to detail, monitoring for equipment issues and operational deficiencies. Work autonomously when required and follow directions from the superintendent. Internal Control Responsibilities Support the Company's Internal Control processes by understanding, communicating, and complying with established policies and suggesting improvements where necessary. Report operational issues, compliance concerns, or misconduct as they arise. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has supervisory responsibilities over non-exempt bargaining unit employees and may oversee non-bargaining unit employees as directed. Job Conditions The work environment may include exposure to various weather conditions, and risks associated with noise, fumes, and debris typical of a rolling mill. It is mandatory to wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as steel-toed boots, ear protection, and safety glasses. Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions Ability to stand, walk, and navigate uneven surfaces consistently. Capability to crouch, stoop, twist, climb, and crawl as needed. Skilled in handling tools such as hammers, wrenches, micrometers, and calipers. Frequent lifting and pulling requirements, maximum weight 50 pounds. Primarily indoor work (95%) in a non-climate-controlled environment with occasional outdoor tasks. Wear required safety equipment to mitigate environmental risks. Exposure to various elements, including noise and vibrations, is an everyday occurrence. Qualifications Minimum of three years of experience in a bar, rod, or section mill as an Assistant Roller, Mill Operator, or Roller. Preferred candidates will have diverse experience across various positions in the rolling mills. Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
