Job Title: Project Controls Manager Company Name: JP Tank Inc Salary: $70,000 - $95,000+ per year (based on experience) + Year-End Bonus Employment Type: Full-Time Industry: Concrete Construction / Industrial Infrastructure Job Overview JP Tank Inc is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Controls Manager to oversee estimating, budgeting, job cost integrity, and project financial analysis across our construction operations. This role is critical to ensuring that projects are accurately estimated, properly budgeted, and continuously monitored to protect margins and maintain financial clarity from pre-construction through project closeout. The Project Controls Manager works closely with ownership, operations leadership, and accounting to ensure all projects begin with structured cost codes, clear production targets, and accurate financial tracking. This individual acts as the company's margin protector, ensuring that labor, equipment, materials, and change orders are properly tracked and aligned with project budgets. This role is ideal for someone with strong estimating experience, construction financial knowledge, and the ability to translate field production into accurate job costing and reporting. Learn more at Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Estimating & Pre-Construction Prepare detailed project estimates and assist in bid preparation. Review project drawings, specifications, and scope requirements to ensure accurate estimating. Finalize project estimates prior to contract award and approval. Develop structured cost-coded budgets aligned with the estimate structure. Budget Setup & Job Cost Management Convert approved estimates into job budgets within the company accounting system (IES). Ensure projects are entered with clean and accurate cost codes. Align job budgets with estimate structure to ensure cost tracking accuracy. Maintain integrity of job cost categories used by both field teams and accounting. Project Financial Analysis Track project costs including labor, equipment, and materials against budget. Perform variance analysis to identify overages, inefficiencies, or financial risks. Monitor job cost data and ensure field reports align with cost categories. Conduct weekly Work-In-Progress (WIP) analysis to ensure financial reporting accuracy. Change Order & Margin Protection Track pending and approved change orders throughout project lifecycle. Ensure change orders are properly documented and incorporated into project financials. Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material consumption to protect project margins. Project Kickoff & Coordination Lead project kickoff meetings with key stakeholders including: Owner Field Operations Manager Foreman Accounting team Establish project execution framework including: Production targets Labor budget hours Equipment plans Material plans Risk factors and mitigation strategies Operations Review & Reporting Participate in weekly operations review meetings with leadership. Review project financial performance including: Labor budget vs. actual hours Equipment budget vs. usage Material overruns Pending change orders Schedule delays impacting costs Project Closeout Conduct post-job financial reviews to evaluate project margin performance. Analyze estimated accuracy and identify lessons learned to improve future bids. Qualifications The ideal candidate should possess: Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, project controls, or job cost analysis. Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction budgeting, cost codes, and job costing practices. Estimating Skills: Proven ability to prepare and analyze construction estimates. Financial Analysis: Experience performing variance analysis, WIP reporting, and margin tracking. Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with construction accounting or project management software (experience with IES or similar systems preferred). Communication: Strong ability to collaborate with operations teams, accounting, and leadership. Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain accurate project financial data and reporting. Organization: Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
