Company : enGen Job Description : JOB SUMMARY We are on the lookout for an experienced Principal Data Architect to lead our data and digital transformation initiatives within a robust and modern open data ecosystem. This role will play a critical part in defining and executing our enterprise strategy and architectural framework focused on data movement, enrichment, and orchestration across our diverse and complex hybrid ecosystem. In this impactful role, you will implement solutions using technologies such as dbt, Airflow, Kafka, and Iceberg, making a difference in a $30B+ organization that serves millions of lives nationwide. As a transformational leader, you will uphold a customer-centric mindset, ensuring that efficiency and innovation accompany the phase-out of legacy systems. We are searching for a natural thought leader who can shape and guide the architectural evolution across multiple domains, balancing considerations of time, cost, and complexity while prioritizing positive experiences for our members. To thrive in this position, you should have a solid track record in promoting best practices and emerging technologies (such as lakehouse architecture, ELT vs. ETL paradigms, and open-source trends), as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation organization-wide. You should also have a deep understanding of evolving data architecture patterns, allowing you to make informed decisions that benefit the company and its teams in the short and long run. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the creation and communication of complex architectural visions and strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic initiatives. Work collaboratively with senior stakeholders, influencing key decisions and ensuring consensus on intricate architectural solutions. Evaluate and select new technologies and solutions that meet the strategic direction and evolving needs of the organization. Proactively identify and address potential risks and challenges to ensure successful implementation and operation of architectures. Act as a subject matter expert and advocate for architectural best practices, helping to develop organizational standards and policies. Provide mentorship and guidance to foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Fulfill any additional duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE Required 10 years of experience in the architecture, design, and implementation of complex systems and solutions. Preferred 5+ years in enterprise data architecture focusing on data platform modernization. 5+ years experience with architecture frameworks and methodologies; you should have clear opinions on terms such as medallion architecture and be prepared to discuss their merits. 7+ years experience with data movement platforms in roles such as engineer, architect, or technical product manager. Strong familiarity with relevant platforms including Airflow, Kafka, Flink, Iceberg Lakehouse, and DBT. Substantial emphasis on modernization technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, Airflow, Beam, DBT, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Iceberg Format, Monte Carlo, Dynatrace, Atlan, Starburst, Vertex AI, GitLab, GPT, among others. SKILLS Deep understanding of architecture frameworks and methodologies. Software development expertise. Awareness of emerging technologies. Strategic thinking and effective influencing skills. Critical thinking and strong decision-making abilities. Familiarity with technologies relevant to applications, which may include IMS, DB2, Oracle, Teradata, Data Warehousing, COBOL, Visual Basic, C, C++, SAS, Java/JavaScript Frameworks, PEGA, CSS3, Mobile, JSON, Cognos, Hadoop, SQL, J2EE, HTML5/XML, Waterfall, Agile. EDUCATION Required Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Preferred Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field. Licenses or Certifications Required None. Preferred None.
