Role Overview: We are seeking a talented Senior Engineering Manager specializing in AI/ML to lead our Data Foundations teams within the Embodied AI organization. In this pivotal role, you will combine technical expertise with leadership skills to guide a dedicated team focused on advancing GM's Foundation AV model through a strategic data approach. You will manage senior AI/ML Engineers and Engineering Managers, provide technical direction for Data Scaling teams, and engage with partner teams organization-wide. About the Team: The Data Scaling team is vital in driving the Data Flywheel essential for developing and fine-tuning AV Foundation models. This team defines the data composition required for AV learning behaviors at scale, ensuring we meet the performance standards necessary for product success. By delivering ML models that enhance AV performance via optimized data usage, we focus on amplifying the quantity, diversity, and quality of data that contribute to model enhancements. We utilize extensive existing datasets and identify high-value datasets that we continuously collect from both real-world driving and simulations. Why Join Us? What You'll Do: Lead a cross-functional team of AI/ML engineers and managers to build and scale the Data Flywheel at GM. Elevate engineering standards within the team: establish best practices, offer constructive feedback, and mentor team members. Drive the technical vision for Data Foundations at GM while collaborating effectively with senior leaders and your team. Define the project roadmap, prioritize developments, and align the team’s endeavors with company objectives and product milestones. Work closely with teams engaged in AV model development and validation to achieve organizational goals and scaling requirements. Cultivate an inclusive and high-performance team culture that embodies GM's engineering values and principles. What You Must Have: BS, MS, or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Proven experience managing high-performing engineering teams focused on operational excellence. A track record of inspiring teams, driving best practices, and facilitating continuous improvement. Experience delivering scalable software solutions in production using Python. Expertise in managing data scaling challenges, emphasizing the integration of diverse data sources into large models. Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, along with a passion for innovation in autonomous technology. Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership capabilities. Bonus Points: A background in Robotics or the AV/ADAS industry. Experience with LLMs/VLMs in production workflows. Expertise in building scalable model training pipelines for quick iteration by distributed teams. Strong data processing skills using tools like Numpy, Pandas, and Apache Spark. Experience in developing safety-critical code and systems. Knowledge of the complete process of deploying foundation models in production environments. Remote: This position is remote. However, if you reside within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, or Mountain View, you are expected to report to the office three times a week at minimum. Compensation: The salary for this role ranges from $296,300.00 to $453,900.00, depending on relevant experience and skills. An incentive program also offers bonus payouts based on individual and company performance.
