Job Description Embark on a rewarding journey as a Health Care Specialist, where you will be a vital first responder to injuries and illnesses, not only helping civilians affected by natural disasters but also serving the Soldiers who protect our nation. In this role, you will become an essential caretaker both on and off the battlefield. You will address urgent health care needs following natural calamities, provide immediate emergency treatment and ongoing care for Soldiers, and ensure the management of medical readiness, supplies, and equipment. Job Duties Administer emergency medical treatment to battlefield casualties Assist with outpatient and inpatient care and treatment Instruct Soldiers in Combat Lifesaver/First Responder training courses Manage Soldiers' medical readiness, medical supplies, and equipment Some of the Skills You'll Learn Patient care techniques Advanced medical care Plaster casting techniques Helpful Skills Enjoy helping and caring for others Ability to communicate effectively and work under stress Interest in chemistry, biology, psychology, general science, and algebra Strong attention to detail Through extensive training, you will obtain the knowledge and experience necessary for a fulfilling civilian career in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, or rehabilitation centers. Career paths may include emergency medical technician, medical assistant, medication aide, or physician's assistant. It is mandatory to gain certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians at the EMT level or higher. Earn While You Learn Instead of incurring costs to learn these essential skills, you will have the opportunity to earn a paycheck while training. In the Army National Guard, you will gain valuable job skills while earning a consistent income and becoming eligible for tuition assistance. Job training for Health Care Specialists involves 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) that includes hands-on patient care practice. The duration of AIT may vary depending on the chosen area of specialization, combining classroom instruction with field training.
