Registered Nurse (RN) | Correctional Location: Leavenworth, KS Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $1,997 per week Shift Information: Nights - 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: 3/30/2026 About the Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, Weekdays and Weekends Hours per Shift: 36.00 Experience: One year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver’s license required Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider orders. Dispensing and administering medications is also part of the role. Assisting Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients is required. Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. All technical and clinical procedures must be performed within the scope of education and licensure. Appropriate nursing skills must be applied in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. The RN will attend sick calls with the physician to see inmates/residents. Preparation of a list of inmates/residents to be examined is necessary. The examining room and equipment must be prepared. Pill call operations, dispensing medication, and documentation are required as per applicable policies. The RN will contact Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders during emergencies. Examination and assessment of new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries must be performed. Referring inmates/residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities is necessary. Emergency procedures must be performed as needed, notifying Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders. The RN will assist in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. Monitoring inmate/resident hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate is required. Providing guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff is part of the role. Maintaining good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies is expected. Established corporate, facility, and correctional policies and procedures should be utilized in decision-making. Regular evaluation of the provision of medical services is necessary to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services. Absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records must be maintained. The RN will assist with the review of medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. Close monitoring of all potential catastrophic illnesses is essential. Audits of pharmacy use for adherence to formulary must be conducted as directed or required. Compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, particularly those concerning controlled substances, is expected. Observation and recording of inmate/resident behavior is required. The medical unit must be inspected for items that could be used as contraband by inmates/residents. Supplies and equipment must be securely stored or safely disposed of. Health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis must be provided as required. Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports, and logs is necessary. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and documents is required. Processing and responding to lawsuits, and attending court hearings when necessary, is part of the role. Facilitating accreditations of the medical program by providing required levels of efficiency and approved medical services is necessary. Preparing and disseminating safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures is expected. Appropriate action must be taken in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
