Responsibilities include planning and coordinating the distribution of electricity, ensuring reliable and efficient power delivery to customers, managing maintenance and repair activities, monitoring system performance, and implementing safety protocols. Works closely with engineering teams, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders to optimize power distribution processes and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. May also be involved in developing and implementing renewable energy initiatives and managing customer relationships.Roles and Responsibilities : Manages the 24-hour, 7-day operation of the Power Dispatch Center and the operation of NJ TRANSIT's High Voltage Power Distribution System, which provides NJ TRANSIT electrified train equipment with traction power for train movement, primary power for the signal system, and power and light for bridges and terminals. Monitors, designs and tests all phases of the interface with the TMAC control system. Ensures staffing and scheduling of dispatchers is adequate for operations under normal and/or special operations. Monitors and evaluates system-wide electrical system performance to ensure optimum system operations, analyzes operational patterns and on-time performance and employee and public safety. Develops contingencies for system outages to ensure safe, reliable, cost-efficient operation to conform to state, federal and rail operating regulations. Coordinates power outage requirements with capital and line forces to ensure adequate track time for engineering maintenance and maintains qualification levels. Reviews planned and emergency outages/failures and determines system impact and reconfiguration of power network to minimize adverse impact to train movement. Supports and documents required testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of the electric power system. Establishes and maintains policies for the TRO-3 electrical operating instructions and standard operational procedures to ensure safety of employees within the electrified zone. Leads all investigations into TRO-3 rule investigations and ensures that appropriate discipline and/or reinstruction are administered. Qualifies all NJ TRANSIT ET Employees system-wide to ensure skills are developed and a minimum level of system knowledge is understood. Develops training programs to ensure compliance with TRO-3 and the use of TMAC where applicable. Responsible for ensuring that qualification information is documented and up to date. Draws and maintains all catenary plate orders in NJ TRANSIT’s electrified zones. Coordinates with Engineering and IS to develop ET system diagrams and catenary plates for accurate and comprehensive representation of system equipment. Ensures that TMAC systems properly reflect the system as maintenance and capital project changes occur, through project involvement, field audits and as-built drawings. Maintains system integrity by requiring all systems to be properly commissioned as part of switching and tagging process. Maintain active up-to-date log of all out-of-service equipment or unusual system occurrences. Prioritizes corrective actions, and ensure timely repairs are affected. Takes an active lead role in the creation and implementation of the new TMAC system from an ET perspective. Responsible for collecting, maintaining and auditing all switching and tagging documentation from field employees. This process includes feedback to ET workers to ensure safe work practices are followed. Responds to system emergencies and provides support to the Power Dispatch Center on a 24/7-day basis to ensure safe and proper operations. Education, Experience, and Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Knowledge and Skills : Seven (7) years of progressive experience in high voltage electrical work, three (3) year experience as a Power Supervisor desired. A strong knowledge of NJ TRANSIT’s signal system and train control system interaction is required. Must possess a strong knowledge of both electrical and railroad codes and operating rules. Must have good computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Computer Aided Design.
