Description : Application JOB TITLE: Laboratory Technician II FLSA: NON-EXEMPTDEPARTMENT: Utility PAY RANGE: 15/1 - $17.07ACCOUNTABLE TO: Plant Supervisor PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general supervision is responsible for the laboratory at the assigned Plant, testing for process control and regulatory requirements, and for the Industrial Pre-Treatment Program for both treatment plants. Work varies, individual judgment within well established guidelines and regulations is required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Physical demands include some bending, stooping, walking on rough or uneven terrain, kneeling, and lifting up to 60#s (greater with assistance); Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may be subject to inclement weather; occasionally work is performed in confined and cramped situations; exposure to chemicals and infectious wastes is present; Must possess and maintain ODEQ Class C Wastewater Lab Certifications and Class B Wastewater Treatment Certifications within one year of employment; Must possess Class B Wastewater Lab Certifications within one year of employment; Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's License. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: Performs required laboratory tests for process control and required self-monitoring of the treatment plant assigned; Gathers samples at various locations within the plant, analyzes, records the results and reports to the plant supervisor; Is responsible for Pre-Treatment sampling, includes setting portable samplers at industrial locations, scheduling, and inspections working with the Special Projects Coordinator as assigned; Prepares laboratory apparatus and reagents for appropriate tests; Performs the duties of a plant operator as needed; Monitors control panels, starts, and stops pumps, and adjusts valves and gates to control the treatment processes; Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, testing results to determine load requirements; Performs routine maintenance operations on equipment facilities and grounds; Performs other duties as may be assigned; Maintains daily logs, records, various monthly and annual reports and submits these reports to the appropriate City, State, and Federal Agencies in accordance with NPDES/OPDES permit requirements; Is responsible for equipment requiring care; Contacts with fellow employees requires common courtesy and respect; Work is occasionally performed in an uncontrolled environment that may require the use of proper safety equipment and procedures to prevent injury. SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: May supervise others in the absence of the Shift Supervisor as assigned. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school graduation or its equivalent, supplemented by additional courses of study in the areas of water and wastewater treatment, chemistry, or related field; PLUS Three years experience in Water and/or Wastewater Treatment; Must possess and maintain ODEQ Class C Wastewater Lab Certification and Class B Wastewater Treatment Certifications within one year of employment; Must Possess Class B Wastewater Lab Certifications within one year of employment; Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's License and maintain status of insurability. EXAMPLES OF PERFORMANCE CRITERIA AND EXPECTATIONS: Maintains knowledge of all permits applicable to the Water and Wastewater Plants and assures that the City is in compliance with the regulations and permits; Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationships with fellow employees, other officials, and the public; Must be able to work in confined spaces; Performs Quality Assurance and Quality Control testing for the Plants and submits reports to the various City, State, and Federal Agencies as required; Responsible for the Industrial Pre-Treatment Program sampling and inspections.
