Posting Details Position Information Position Title Career Services Specialist/Athletic Coach - FT Department Student Support Program Location Beatrice Job Category Professional Job Type FT Posting Number 02116 Position End Date Position Summary Information General Description of Position Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Student Development and Engagement, the Career Services Specialist/Athletic Coach engages students in career exploration, providing opportunities for students to gain professional experience and advice, facilitates meaningful connections between students and alumni with common interests, and cultivates strong employer partnerships through engaging staff in employer relations. The Career Services Specialist coordinates with the Institutional Research Department to collect graduate placement data used in the Graduate Report. This full-time regular position is responsible for the recruitment, training, and supervision of the specified athletic sport. Coaching duties are assigned based upon the successful candidate's qualifications and the needs and availability of the College's sanctioned sports teams/clubs. This may include, but is not limited to: women's golf or rodeo. Essential FunctionsEngage Students and Alumni in Career and Job Counseling and Services Provide daily individual and/or group consulting services for students and alumni with information about job and career exploration services provided, including individual and classroom presentations. Guide students and alumni through career exploration, self-assessment, mock interviews, and job search activities. Instruct student applicants in resumé writing, job search, and interviewing techniques. Provide career information and serve as a resource person for current students and alumni who are seeking employment. Assist individuals in developing employment plans based on career goals, appraisal of personal characteristics, interests, education, and experience. Promote Employment Opportunities for Students Process employment materials and provide information about job opportunities to potential applicants. Inform students about career opportunities by personal contact, use of technology, or other media services, including, but not limited to, website postings, campus bulletin boards, electronic signs, and job boards. Design and deliver innovative and effective career presentations, workshops, and programs. Conduct periodic classroom presentations regarding Career Services. Locate and Develop Off-Campus Employment Opportunities Establish relationships with employers to promote, encourage, and facilitate placement of students and alumni. Contact prospective employers to discuss personnel needs, solicit job openings, and explain Career Services. Respond to employer inquiries and follow up with employer requests. Conduct employer development activities and consult with employers to promote the hiring of SCC students and alumni. Initiate, maintain, and conduct employment recruitment through conferences, networking, phone calls, and site visits on a regular basis. Establish and maintain relationships with hiring managers/recruiters to stay abreast of current and future needs for employees. Explain department services and policies to potential employers, including on-campus interviewing, electronic resume referral, and job posting system. Function as a Career Counselor for Students Seeking Career Employment Interview applicants to determine qualifications and eligibility for employment. Obtain work history, training, education, job skills, and salary requirement information. Refer qualified student applicants to employers for on-site interviews. Arrange on-campus interviews when appropriate. Organize, promote, and coordinate employment promotional activities such as career information programs. Coordinate Career Development Programming Coordinate large-scale job fairs, interview days, and career programs. Manage program planning and coordination, publicity, student and employer recruitment, logistics, budget, learning assessments, and program evaluations. Create and coordinate marketing for the events. Review students' written job search materials (resumes, cover letters, and personal statements). Collect Data in Cooperation with Institutional Research for the Graduate Report Conduct a graduate survey to gather relevant placement information. Contact all graduates to obtain follow-up data relating to employment and related campus services following graduation. File and maintain records such as graduate reports, job referral records, employer contact records, and salary information. Distribute the annual Graduate Report to prospective students, community agencies, businesses, industry representatives, counselors, faculty, staff, and other interested individuals. Function as a Member of the Career Services Team Interact with colleagues, students, staff, and administrators in a manner to promote a positive image of Career Services and the College. Promote/facilitate institutional services such as recruitment, career services, and orientation. Establish and support relationships among college faculty, staff, students, alumni, Career Services, and employers. Meet routinely and as needed with chairs, deans, advisors, college staff, and faculty to promote Career Services activities and programs, discuss department services and policies, and develop targeted programming to address the specific needs of students within the college. Prepare and Distribute the Alumni News Maintain alumni database and collection of alumni events. Coordinate with other college divisions to create and distribute the Alumni News, both in print and via email to alumni, SCC staff, and faculty. Coordinate Career Services Office Functions and Manage Staff Supervise and coordinate scheduling and services of the Administrative Assistant and student employees for Campus Career Services. Aid in the development of assessments to guide practice and evaluate department effectiveness. Chair or participate in committees. Make recommendations for processes and procedures. Support Student Services as a vital member of the team through active participation. Participate in ongoing professional development activities, read professional journals/articles, and incorporate new learning into practice. Athletic Coach Recruit new athletes to participate in the NJCAA Region IX defined athletic program. Provide daily coaching to the student athletes. Travel with the team to athletic contests and supervise athletes at all events. Instruct student athletes in the official rules of the defined athletic program and the applicable bylaws of the NJCAA. Assist athletes in developing education plans based on career goals, appraisal of personal characteristics, interests, education, and experience. Promote a Culture of Belonging Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Foster a community where each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all. Marginal Functions Assist with public relations activities and tours. Promote Career Services to entering students during New Student Orientation activities. Participate in local, state, and regional associations and employer groups concerned with Career Services. Inform business, labor, and the public about the college's Career Services program through visitations and various media. Provide career and employment information to unit counselors, faculty, and staff. Assist with the acquisition of resource materials appropriate for inclusion in the Career Services area. Respond to inquiries regarding market trends. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public. Knowledge of and experience in recruiting, screening, and interviewing prospective employees and athletes. Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations. Knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the sport of golf and teaching athletes at the college level. Skills and abilities necessary to describe various employment positions in a factual, clear, and concise manner in both verbal and written formats. Ability to apply appropriate computer skills in the use of such software as word processing, spreadsheet, and database. Ability to devise and apply various program marketing techniques to prospective employers. Knowledge and ability to collect, arrange, and interpret graduate placement data in both written and verbal formats. Knowledge of the labor market and employment opportunities in the area, state, and nation. Knowledge of personnel management. Ability to provide individual and group instruction related to job placement practices and procedures. Ability to design and deliver employment and career information. Understanding of student and career development theories. Knowledge of the Family Rights and Privacy Act and release of confidential materials. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone. Ability to use basic computer skills. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a major in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Human Resource Management, Education, Athletics, Physical Education, or a directly related field of study. Two (2) years of professional work experience in college career services or personnel management.One (1) year of experience in athletic coaching. Masters degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or Education may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience. Desired Qualifications Master's degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or Education. Two (2) or more years' experience in athletic coach. Salary $49,837 per year BenefitsSCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA). Schedule Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
