Do you want to put that experience to use for the North Carolina House Majority conducting oversight, investigations, inquiries, hearings, and research? As Senior Counsel for staff of the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations (Gov Ops), you will work closely with the staff director, counsel in the Speaker's office, counsel in the Majority Leader's office, and legislative members. You will need to think strategically about North Carolina law, judicial precedent, administrative code, and government practice. Our team helps House Members, committees, and other staff investigate and evaluate government activities. We review, monitor, and supervise state agencies and institutions, state-supported nonprofits, and local governments. The team works to ensure recommendations have been implemented by agencies and suggests further action by the General Assembly when necessary. Gov Ops staff are partisan legislative staff who report to the House Majority Staff Director. The ideal candidate will be an aggressive advocate who can quickly understand a changing statutory and strategic environment in coordination with the rest of a multitalented team. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Active license to practice law in North Carolina Prosecutorial experience Excellent writing Discernment and discretion MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: We will only consider candidates with an active license to practice law in North Carolina. Candidates should have at least three years of experience practicing law.
