The Consumer & Business Group (CBG) at Coinbase aims to become the top financial app globally by providing exceptional experiences for consumers and businesses. We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer who will be a technical backbone for our Trading and Financial Infrastructure. This leadership role calls for an engineer with deep backend systems expertise and an innate understanding, often referred to as "Trader DNA," regarding risk, velocity, and market mechanics. In this role, you will shape the technical strategy for complex financial products and drive initiatives from start to finish—covering architecture, design, and implementation. This hands-on position requires you to actively code, ensuring the delivery of multi-quarter roadmaps that affect the entire organization. Key Responsibilities: Lead the technical design and execution of major initiatives within the Consumer organization. Ensure a fast and efficient trading experience for our global users. Streamline the technical architecture in Trading and Financial Services for optimal performance. Minimize reliance on shared platform teams by developing robust, domain-centric solutions. Conduct thorough technical risk assessments and enhance the engineering quality of our systems. Define Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and metrics that accurately reflect product quality and spearhead initiatives for improvement. Provide technical leadership across large teams and multiple groups, influencing decision-making at an organizational level. Play an active role in recruiting and evaluating engineers with "Trader DNA," helping to elevate the overall talent within the engineering organization. Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in software engineering focused on large-scale backend distributed systems. Experience in building crypto-native systems or a strong background in Traditional Finance (TradFi), particularly in Market Making, Market Structure, or Trading Systems (including Futures, Options, and Equities). Adept at navigating unclear paths and translating abstract business goals into actionable technical roadmaps. Proven track record of leading senior individual contributors and influencing large-scale projects. Exceptional skills in cross-functional collaboration, as this role intersects with the entire Consumer organization.
