Position Overview The HVAC/Refrigeration Technician III plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems. This vital position is responsible for ensuring these systems operate effectively within the stringent requirements needed for pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage. Regular inspections and preventative maintenance are key activities in this position to guarantee optimal performance. What You'll Do Carry out routine and preventative maintenance on complex HVAC and refrigeration systems with a minimal supervision requirement. Assess and report intricate HVAC issues to management and plant engineering teams. Oversee the installation of HVAC systems as necessary. Lead major projects concerning HVAC systems, such as replacing air handlers and upgrading cold rooms. Provide insights to management for developing and implementing effective HVAC maintenance schedules. Mentor and train other staff or HVAC technicians. Advise on maintenance and repair plans for the HVAC systems and equipment. Participate in specialized training programs to remain informed on modern HVAC practices and HEPA certification. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines consistently. Manage certifications for Fume Hoods, Laminar flow hoods, and Biosafety Cabinets. Conduct routine testing and certification of HEPA filters according to schedule. Assist in creating and maintaining vendor contracts when necessary. Engage in air balancing activities for clean room environments to maintain necessary cleanliness standards. Support site functions in qualifying and maintaining HVAC-related production equipment. Collaborate with vendors and other departments to schedule necessary repairs and maintenance. Utilize Building Management Systems (BMS) to trend and evaluate HVAC data. Work cross-functionally with Utilities, Plant Engineering, and support groups. Contribute to the revision or development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed. Provide support for site operations and emergency work orders outside standard hours, as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in HVAC. Understanding of HVAC design principles and standards such as ASHRAE and SMACNA. Ability to analyze and interpret data for informed decision-making. Capacity to train or mentor others effectively. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics proficiently. Capability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment. Knowledge of air balancing activities required in clean room settings and pressure cascades. Willingness to support a 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shifts, on-call duties, and weekends. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 4-6 years of experience as an HVAC technician in a manufacturing setting. Experience with refrigerant systems troubleshooting and testing/certifying HEPA filters. Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship or vocational training. Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification (EPA 608 Certification). Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering, or relevant field. Previous experience as an HVAC technician specifically in pharmaceutical or manufacturing environments. Familiarity with GMP manufacturing processes. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order management. Prior involvement in starting, commissioning, and validating HVAC equipment. Certification in H3. HVAC/Refrigeration Certification. Physical Requirements: The physical demands listed here represent those necessary for performing the essential functions of the job. Be exposed to outdoor elements such as rain and wind. Work in tight or enclosed spaces. Operate at heights greater than 4 feet.
