The role - what you'll do Barr is on the lookout for a talented electrical engineer to enhance our power delivery team. In this flexible position, which can be either hybrid or fully remote, you will play a vital role in SCADA design and integration, collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver exceptional electrical engineering solutions. Your responsibilities will also include managing tasks, mentoring junior staff, and providing technical leadership to ensure we meet our clients' diverse needs. You will focus on integrating substation protection and control systems into robust electrical and communications systems, engaging in detailed SCADA design and integration for electrical installations primarily within the power sector. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. We are looking for someone who is intrinsically motivated and prioritizes client service. You should enjoy both independent work and teamwork, leveraging your technical expertise and project management skills across a variety of projects. Flexibility in collaborating with project teams and occasionally adjusting schedules to meet deadlines or client needs is essential. Building and maintaining relationships will be a key part of this role as it involves serving both internal and external clients. Your impact - key responsibilities Technical knowledge: Preparation of specifications, wiring and schematic diagrams, and bill-of-material development. You'll engage in design and analysis, including the preparation of plans and specifications, report creation, cost estimating, and designing power, controls, and communication schemes from scratch. Project management: Involved in proposal development, including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets. You will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing projects while ensuring project milestones are achieved, providing regular updates to team members and clients. Staff development: Support the growth and development of team members. Collaboration: Build and sustain strong relationships with clients and internal teams. Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals, contributing to a positive and inclusive team culture. About the opportunity A hybrid or remote work arrangement can be considered for this position, which can be based out of any Barr office. Remote arrangements will depend on candidate qualifications and Barr's operational needs. Travel expectation: Up to 25 percent domestic fieldwork is anticipated. Work environment: Candidates should be prepared to work in environments typical of construction sites, and safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. About you - required core competencies Education: A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required. Experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience related to the responsibilities described above. Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, laws, and regulations. Proficiency related to PLC and HMI programming and commissioning. Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain one within one year. Software: Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word), along with relay and SCADA software, including relay settings, RTU configurations, and HMI development. Driver's license: A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are necessary. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future. Helpful additional experience (not required) 15+ years of experience in consulting engineering, electric utilities, or industrial sectors. Familiarity with IEC 61850 standard communication protocols. Experience related to electrical installations in hazardous areas. Compensation: The anticipated salary range is $115,000-$140,000 annually, varying based on experience, education, skills, and other compensable factors. Employees may also be eligible for discretionary cash bonuses based on individual and team performance. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
