We recognize the importance of creating a work environment that is both rewarding to our employees and supportive of our unwavering commitment to provide unparalleled service to our clients.PurposeEvaluate, select and apply standard structural engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on transportation, infrastructure and land development projects of varying levels of complexity. Perform the design and provide engineering services across all markets.ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Direction Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on complex assignments and possible solutions. Work is completed using standard engineering techniques and design principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement. At the Operational and Company Level Work closely with more senior members to learn about and assist with structural engineering and planning work. Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships. Coordinate with other disciplines and internal services/group/offices as necessary. Do the Work Work with a multidisciplinary team to solve structural engineering challenges. Support design teams and project managers in a variety of preliminary engineering/concept development studies, contract plan preparation and activities associated with the final stages of design and construction. Prepare engineering plans and reports in accordance with project requirements, design criteria and specifications. Prepare sketches and exhibits for inclusion in various types of structural reports and memos. Participate in construction-related assignments. Draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, letters, proposals and other documentation/communications. Prepare reports, plans, specifications, construction schedules, cost estimates and/or designs for projects. Participate in fields visits. Develop and maintain accurate and organized project files. Follow established firm goals, SOPs and QA/QC procedures and assist in the QA/QC review of technical work of other staff. Apply client-specific design criteria in the development of design engineering tasks. Increase familiarity with OpenRoads Designer and OpenBridge Modeler in the preparation of engineering and design documents. Prepare reports documenting findings and design criteria in alternatives development and engineering reports.Success Metrics and Competencies Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or related engineering discipline required at time of employment. Completed coursework in structural engineering required. Master's degree in structural engineering preferred. Engineer in Training certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).?? Academic or internship experience in transportation discipline preferred. Entry level position, no prior experience required. Previous engineering experience is a plus. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Valid state driver's license and ability to successfully pass a motor vehicle check or reliable form of transportation to/from the office and/or project site strongly preferred. Knowledge of Bentley Open Roads Deisgner and/or AutoCAD. Interest and/or familiarity with AASHTO, AREMA, IDOT and Illinois Tollway standards, policies and procedures. Some outdoor work environments which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards. Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business. Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds. Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
