Essential Functions Spends majority of shift on foot patrol including, but not limited to, walking and climbing stairs of the interior and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions. Maintains order in the hotel, dealing with the welfare of guests, including assisting with door lock and safe problems and coordinating expedient responses to emergency conditions such as fire or safety hazards and threats to life and/or property in a calm, rational and persuasive manner. Handles undesired conduct, violations of hotel policy and civil laws as warranted for the security and safety of hotel guests, employees, patrons, and property. Investigates accidents, thefts, property loss, and unlawful activities. Uses a clear, concise English-speaking voice, listens with empathy, provides accurate information and documents legibly all appropriate incident information. Prepares incident reports based on the information provided. Memorizes and monitors life safety system installed at property including layout of entire building, alarm pull stations, location of fire extinguishers and sprinklers. Observes the CCTV monitors for any unusual activity and in the case of suspicious activity report directly, via radio, to the Security Supervisor on duty; report any alarms similarly. Answers security office telephone and responds in a timely manner based on priority. Supportive Functions In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, at the discretion of the manager based on the particular requirements of the hotel. Receives, stores, and records all lost and found items in the lost and found software system. Researches and responds to inquiries from guests concerning status of items. Prepare items for shipment and return them to guests. Provides accurate information to inquiries for directions, hours of operation, etc. Escorts guests and employees as required to parking lots, provide same for employees carrying house banks. Assists guests with door locks and in-room safe problems using moderately complex hand-held electronic equipment. Other duties, as assigned by Supervisor, including, but are not limited to processing and issuing employee parking stickers and assigning employee lockers. Monitor local and national news and weather for any safety and weather-related issues. Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. Thorough knowledge of the layout of the building, function rooms, and some knowledge of the city and surrounding areas. Requires verbal communication using two-way radios, bending, stooping, and kneeling as in performing CPR. Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to lower the confrontation level and collect accurate information. Ability to listen effectively, speak, read, and write the English language clearly to ascertain and document important information. Ability to stand, walk and/or sit and continuously perform essential job functions for duration of shift. Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations. Walking significant distances between and within buildings on property. Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions. Requires grasping, lifting and or carrying or otherwise moving persons, packages, luggage, wheelchairs, and safety equipment using manual dexterity of hands. Ability to climb stairs and ladders at a rapid pace. Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges. Qualifications Education: Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. High school diploma preferred. Experience: Prior security/law enforcement or military experience preferred. Licenses and Certificates: Florida Class D Security License preferred. Must be able to obtain CPR certification and complete first aid training.
