Utility Piping Specialist Facilities Development and Management (Zone B) seeks a Utility Piping Specialist to assist with steam infrastructure, in addition to the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems, including performing complex and precision work related to utility piping systems. This position is based on the Tempe campus, however may require working at other ASU campus locations based on program need. Essential duties include: Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including performing complex and precision work related to utility piping systems. Locate, repair, and replace malfunctioning parts using hand tools and power tools. Inspect mechanical system components and use soldering and brazing tools to perform precision techniques in the design, layout, fabrication, joining, and repair of metals, piping, and pressure vessels. Work with drawings and specifications. Install and maintain sprinkler systems. Install and repair water lines and drain lines. Use work order systems in response to maintenance requests. Prioritize work based on critical needs assessment. Assist other trades as needed. This position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays. Use ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Perform other duties as assigned. Days and schedule: Monday Friday 6:30am 3:00pm Salary range: $23.73 per hour. Desired qualifications include: Experience in studying plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs or replacement as required. Knowledge of applying welding standards as defined by current trade practice. Knowledge of the mechanical operation of equipment such as pumps, boilers, cooling towers and chillers. Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials common to the plumbing and welding trades. Experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing and utility piping systems. Experience in the design, fabrication, joining and repair of metals, piping, equipment and structures. Experience in the use of work order systems. Evidence of effective communication. Working environment includes: Perform work in dirty environments with inadequate lighting, extreme noise, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, restricted movement and hazardous materials. Wear personal protective equipment. Climb ladders and work off ladders using hand and power tools to repair plumbing and drainage systems. Work off boom or crane trucks to make repairs above six feet. Travel throughout campus to various research buildings as needed. Lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds. Ability to push and/or pull weight loaded maintenance cart. Drive University vehicle/cart. May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator). Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.
