Job Description

The Planet Group is partnered with a growing energy infrastructure organization seeking a Project Manager to lead the planning and execution of high-voltage transmission line and substation projects. This role is responsible for managing projects from initial concept through construction, testing, and energization, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. The Project Manager will coordinate internal teams, engineering partners, contractors, and stakeholders to successfully deliver complex power infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities Manage transmission and substation capital projects from project conception through commissioning and energization. Lead project planning activities including site selection, layout, design coordination, and facility configuration. Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecasts. Coordinate with engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure successful project execution. Lead the preparation of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) bid packages and participate in contractor selection and negotiations. Manage procurement of materials and equipment required for project execution. Oversee permitting processes, property acquisition, easements, and crossing agreements required for project development. Monitor project performance and proactively identify risks that could impact schedule or budget. Review detailed design packages to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Evaluate and negotiate change orders and manage contractor performance. Coordinate project outages, construction activities, and commissioning efforts. Lead regular project update meetings and provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting to internal stakeholders. Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Support the transition of projects from construction to operational teams. Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders. Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Minimum 5+ years of experience managing high-voltage transmission line or substation projects. Experience managing projects involving engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. Strong understanding of power transmission and substation design and construction practices. Experience managing contractors, consultants, and material suppliers. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Strong project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control experience. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing projects involving 138 kV, 230 kV, or 345 kV transmission infrastructure. Familiarity with industry standards including NESC, NEC, IEEE, AISC, ACI, and OSHA. Experience negotiating and managing EPC contracts. Background working with utilities, developers, or engineering firms supporting power transmission projects. Additional Details Hybrid work schedule based in Austin, TX. Approximately 30% travel to project sites as needed. Competitive compensation package including bonus and long-term benefits.
