The Executive Assistant I plays a key role in supporting the Division Director and ensuring the smooth, efficient operation of the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS). This position provides high-level administrative coordination, manages complex scheduling needs, and prepares a wide range of professional documents in alignment with King County standards. The role serves as a central point of communication for internal and external partners, helps maintain Division-wide compliance with policies and procedures, and supports personnel-related processes in collaboration with Human Resources. This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented, diplomatic, and proactive professional to contribute to the effective functioning of a mission-driven division. This recruitment is to fill one (1) appointed position and one (1) term-limited temporary (TLT) position that is anticipated to end October 2026. If filled by a King County employee who has passed their initial probation, the TLT will be as a special duty assignment (SDA), and may be used to establish an eligibility list to fill additional career service, special duty assignment, or term-limited temporary vacancies in this classification and work group. If established, this list would be valid for 6 months from the date of posting and may be utilized at the discretion of the hiring authority. We are looking for candidates who have: 2 years full time experience performing administrative support. Knowledge and ability to apply proper grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to documents. Intermediate to advance proficiency with MS Office Suite for daily use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint. Basic knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Visio and OneDrive. Adept at using internet searches to acquire information. Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills, including understanding and executing complex verbal and written instructions. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, including experience scheduling meetings with multiple attendees. Ability to take initiative and be accountable, use independent judgment to accomplish tasks and handle responsibilities while avoiding errors in judgment and discretion. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service; work cooperatively with discretion, patience, professionalism, courtesy and tact with everyone (e.g. all levels of staff, private sector officials, elected officials and the public). Skill in providing direction regarding work assignments and in delegating work assignments to appropriate staff members. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and utilize good judgment. Demonstrated ability to maintain organized, prioritize workload, juggle multiple assignments and work calmly under pressure with tight turnaround times. This position has been designated non-mission or mission critical. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather. The Administrative team works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is Chinook, 401 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
