Salary: $4,653.00 - $5,271.00 Monthly Location : Main Campus - 12401 SE 320th Street Auburn, WA Job Type: Classified Full Time Job Number: 26c-005 Department: Business Affairs Division: Facilities Opening Date: 03/11/2026 Closing Date: 3/22/2026 11:59 PM Pacific Position Summary 2 Positions are open5% King County Premium Pay will be added to the final salary placement The Maintenance Mechanic 1 is an entry-level position in the maintenance series that performs semi-skilled maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction duties across campus buildings, grounds, utilities, and equipment. Employees use a working knowledge of several related trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, welding, painting, and mechanical repair. Work may be performed independently on routine assignments or under the guidance of a journey-level tradesperson when specialized skills are required. This position supports campus operations, classrooms, and events by handling general maintenance needs when a journey-level tradesperson is not immediately available. ABOUT THE COLLEGE: Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Position ResponsibilitiesTypical Work General Maintenance Duties Perform semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, welding, painting, and basic machinist work. Repair and maintain doors, locks, windows, flooring, walls, ceilings, and building fixtures. Install and repair basic electrical connections, switches, thermostats, valves, and lighting fixtures. Assist in remodeling and construction projects. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and building systems. Equipment & Facility Support Inspect, maintain, and repair campus equipment such as motors, fans, pumps, kitchen support, shop equipment, and HVAC components. Perform routine service such as changing filters, belts, oil, and lubrication. Assist with maintenance of utility systems and building mechanical systems. Fabricate simple parts or equipment using shop tools when needed. Campus Operations Support Respond to work orders and maintenance requests in classrooms, offices, and common areas. Assist with room setups, furniture moves, and event preparation or cleanup. Help custodial or maintenance teams during high-demand periods or emergencies. Secure facilities after repairs or service calls. Tools & Safety Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and shop equipment safely. Follow safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements. Monitor safety and fire protection equipment and report concerns. Maintain clean and organized work areas. Teamwork & Development Work independently on routine maintenance assignments. Work under direction of journey-level staff on complex repairs. Learn multiple trades through on-the-job training. May assist temporary workers, student employees, or contractors. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair techniques. Ability to safely use hand and power tools. Ability to learn multiple trades and follow instructions. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to work indoors/outdoors and lift equipment as needed. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Basic maintenance, construction, custodial, or grounds experience OR vocational training in a trade. Valid driver's license (if required). Preferred: Experience in facilities or campus maintenance. Familiarity with work order systems. Trade school coursework or certifications. Supplemental Information WORKING CONDITIONS: Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind. Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally, with assistance when required. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods of time. Work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and rooftops while performing maintenance tasks. Use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Be exposed to dust, noise, mechanical equipment, chemicals, cleaning agents, and other materials commonly associated with building maintenance work. Respond to urgent maintenance issues that may require schedule adjustments or emergency response. Follow all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with safety regulations. Work schedule: Monday through Friday.
