Position Summary Manages the operations of the Subrogation Department to support and achieve corporate goals and objectives. Duties and Responsibilities • Manage and lead the operations and daily activities of the Subrogation Department • Develop procedures and policies to enhance management of subrogation claims • Provide leadership, direction, instruction, and supervision to ensure all corporate and departmental goals are met • Analyze and recommend improvements to departmental workflows and processes to increase productivity and improve recovery results • Develop policies and procedures to ensure the highest level of service is provided to all customers, both external and internal • Ensure proper staffing of the Subrogation Department to meet business objectives • Develop effective departmental organization through the selection, evaluation, and development of subordinates • Develop and monitor performance standards for subordinates, including writing and administering timely, comprehensive performance appraisals • Ensure execution of subrogation strategies, including reviewing potential files to assess recovery viability • Provide monthly reports detailing Subrogation's progress and maintain established subrogation recovery records • Review and monitor departmental and individual performance results to goals; take corrective measures as authorized, escalating as needed • Review and document recommendations for subrogated claims, including evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of claims exceeding staff authority levels • Review and analyze reports to identify industry, business, and departmental trends, and developments in laws and regulations; present ideas for change management • Serve as a technical resource and provide training, including design and development of training modules and materials related to subrogation for internal and external customers • Manage relationships with vendors, subrogation attorneys, and experts to ensure service quality • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested Skills, Education, and Experience • Bachelor's degree required • Minimum 8-10 years of advanced technical workers' compensation and tort-specific expertise • Minimum 5-7 years of management experience • Insurance-related professional designation required (such as CSRP, AIC, CPCU) • Experience in strategic planning and budget management preferred • Strong interpersonal and superior communication skills, both verbal and written • Ability to analyze and interpret documents for accuracy regarding technical, legal, and financial information • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in matters of significance • Bilingual skills preferred Positional Competencies Pursuing Excellence Making a Difference Leadership Presence Developing People Continuous Process Improvement Quality Management Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. On occasion, the incumbent will be required to travel off premises and must possess a valid Maryland driver's license. Work Environment Office environment. The noise level is usually moderate.
