CTG's long-standing Fortune 500 client of over 15 years has a W2 contract assignment for a Mechanical Engineer III - Cable/Ribbon Assembly Equipment Capability Engineer. Type: Contract Job Title: Mechanical Engineer III - Cable/Ribbon Assembly Equipment Capability Engineer Location: Newton, NC Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Newton, NC Pay Rate: Based on experience Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Description We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer III - Cable/Ribbon Assembly Equipment Capability Engineer to support high-volume cable manufacturing operations. This role focuses on improving equipment capability, optimizing mechanical performance, and ensuring reliable production processes across cable and ribbon assembly lines. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing, process engineering, maintenance, and equipment suppliers to improve production efficiency, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and support new equipment introduction and line expansions. The role requires strong hands-on engineering experience in continuous manufacturing environments and the ability to analyze equipment performance and implement technical improvements. Requirements • Support mechanical capability and performance of cable and ribbon assembly equipment • Monitor and improve equipment metrics including OEE, Cp/Cpk, uptime, yield, and scrap • Conduct equipment capability studies and support throughput and line balancing improvements • Identify mechanical constraints affecting line speed, tension stability, and dimensional control • Design and optimize tooling, rollers, guides, fixturing, payoff systems, and tension control mechanisms • Create 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for equipment modifications and custom tooling • Perform engineering calculations related to torque, tension, inertia, and mechanical performance • Provide hands-on support during equipment start-ups, trials, and production troubleshooting • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical and process issues • Collaborate with manufacturing, controls, maintenance, and quality teams • Support equipment validation activities including FAT/SAT and production line acceptance • Work with OEMs and equipment suppliers to define specifications and review mechanical designs • Maintain engineering documentation including specifications, PM standards, and change records • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods • Work environment includes manufacturing floor and equipment commissioning environments with significant hands-on interaction with production lines • Occasional travel to supplier or other manufacturing sites may be required Qualifications • 3-6 years of experience supporting cable manufacturing or cable assembly equipment • Hands-on experience with ribboning, stranding, extrusion, shielding, jacketing, or armoring equipment • Strong understanding of mechanical systems in high-volume or continuous manufacturing environments • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent • Experience performing equipment capability analysis and production line optimization • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Excel, JMP, or Minitab • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills • Experience with ribbon cable manufacturing is preferred • Knowledge of tension control systems, dancer mechanisms, capstans, and servo-driven equipment is beneficial • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC), Cp/Cpk analysis, and OEE metrics is a plus • Working knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery and electromechanical interfaces is advantageous • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is preferred Additional Information • No third party resumes will be accepted • Drug testing and/or other employment-related inquiries may be conducted • CTG will consider for employment-qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of all applicable local, state, and federal laws • All interested individuals MUST be able to work on a W2 Tax basis (no C2C or third party vendors) • CTG is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer • CTG is an E-Verify Company To be considered for this opportunity, please apply directly through our website by clicking the link below or email your Word version resume and salary expectations to CTG CTG, a Cegeka company, is at the forefront of digital transformation, providing IT and business solutions that accelerate project momentum and deliver desired value.
