Florida A&M University's Brooksville Agricultural and Environmental Research Station (BAERS) is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Farm Technician vacancy. Responsibilities The Farm Technician performs skilled technical work in support of animal, crop, and research operations at the Florida A&M University Brooksville Agricultural and Environmental Research Station (BAERS). The position supports faculty, staff, and students engaged in livestock, crop, forage, and specialty systems research and demonstration activities and ensures compliance with University, state, and federal regulations. Provide daily care for beef cattle and other livestock, including feeding, watering, tagging, weighing, moving, and administering routine treatments; Monitor animal health and behavior; Maintains records and reports abnormalities; Prepare, clean, and maintain pens, barns, pastures, and handling facilities in compliance with IACUC and animal welfare standards; Assist with breeding, calving, herd management, and pasture rotation; Operate equipment associated with hay production, feed handling, and manure management. Assist with land preparation, planting, irrigation, cultivation, and harvesting of crops and forages; Operate and maintain tractors, sprayers, and farm implements; Monitor irrigation systems, soil moisture, and crop condition; Support field and greenhouse research activities, including plot establishment, data collection, sampling, and basic processing; Implement integrated pest, disease, and weed management practices in accordance with applicable safety and environmental regulations. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on farm equipment, vehicles, irrigation systems, fencing, and facilities; Ensure safe operation of equipment and compliance with environmental health and safety standards; Identify and reports major maintenance or repair needs. Assist in establishing and maintaining research and demonstration plots for crops, forages, and specialty systems; Collect and records data under faculty supervision; Support field days, tours, outreach events, and educational programs; Provide operational support for events and demonstrations; Maintain supply inventories and assists with procurement and record keeping; and perform other related duties as assigned by the Farm Manager. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED, or 3 years of relevant experience in farm operations, livestock care, agricultural field work, equipment operation, or facility maintenance. Experience supporting agricultural research, livestock handling, or crop production systems is preferred. Valid driver's license required. Recommended Competencies Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; Ability to lift 50 lbs or more; Ability to work outdoors; Possess or have the ability to acquire CDL license; Knowledge of cultivating field crops with tractor, preparing soil and planting crops, pastures and forages, tillage of soil; Skill to operate tractor with mechanical attachments, seed drill, post hole digger, and other related equipment and machinery; Knowledge of animal husbandry and farm operations; Knowledge of carpentry and fencing; Ability to complete general repairs on facilities, vehicles and equipment; Skill in use of hand tools and mechanical equipment; Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and, Some computer literacy. Pay Plan This is an Other Personnel Support (OPS)/Temporary position.
