Position Summary The Atlas School Nurse plays a critical role in supporting the health and safety of our school community. This position provides direct care to students, manages health-related protocols, and supports the implementation of individualized health and emergency plans. The ideal candidate is warm, detail-oriented, and collaborative, and able to build trust with students and families while ensuring a safe and compliant school environment. Key Responsibilities Direct Student Care & Health Management Provide first aid, emergency care, and health assessments for students and staff. Administer medications and manage treatment for students with chronic conditions in compliance with physician orders and parent/guardian permission. Monitor and manage communicable diseases, allergies, asthma, diabetes, and other health conditions within the school. Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records for all students. Health Compliance & Recordkeeping Ensure compliance with local and state health regulations, including immunizations, physicals, and screenings. Complete required health documentation, incident reports, and annual reports for school and state agencies. Maintain secure and confidential health records in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA. Maintain accurate health and attendance records for students, including documenting illness-related absences in the Student Information System (SIS) when families call to report a sick child. Communicate with families to gather relevant health information when students are absent due to illness. Assist with attendance follow-up by making phone calls to families regarding student absences and ensuring accurate documentation in school systems. Health Education & Prevention Provide health education and guidance to students, staff, and families on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, chronic illness, and disease prevention. Collaborate with school staff to promote wellness initiatives and a healthy school environment. Emergency Preparedness & Safety Create and update Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for students with medical needs. Train staff on medical protocols, including the use of EpiPens, inhalers, AEDs, and basic first aid. Lead or assist in developing school-wide safety and emergency response plans related to student health. Family & Community Partnership Serve as a key point of contact for families regarding student health needs and wellness resources. Communicate clearly and compassionately with families about health concerns, medication needs, or medical incidents. Qualifications Required: Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Missouri, preferred Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent credential (e.g., EMT, LPN, or prior school health aide experience) if not a licensed RN Current CPR and First Aid Certification Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Preferred: Experience in a school or community-based health setting Knowledge of state immunization and school health regulations Experience working with children in a school, pediatric, or public health setting Why Join Atlas?
