What You Will Do As a Process Engineering Intern, you will work closely with the engineering team to support manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives. Manufacturing & Process Support Assist process engineers in evaluating composite foam production methods, equipment performance, and material flow Conduct time studies and collect production data to support labor standards and capacity analysis Support troubleshooting of process variation impacting yield, scrap, cycle time, and quality Observe and document process parameters, work instructions, and standard operating procedures Review engineering drawings and validate Bill of Material data within ERP systems Engineering Projects & Continuous Improvement Assist with Design of Experiments (DOE) to evaluate materials and process parameters Analyze production data to identify efficiency improvements and waste reduction opportunities Participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives such as Gemba walks, 5S, and improvement projects Support updates to process flow diagrams, plant layouts, and engineering documentation Assist with data collection related to PFMEA reviews and control plan updates Prepare presentations summarizing project findings and improvement recommendations What You Will Learn This internship is designed to provide hands-on engineering experience and professional development. You’ll gain exposure to: Real manufacturing operations and engineering problem solving Data analysis and process optimization Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical thinking Automotive quality systems and engineering documentation Cross-functional collaboration with operations, engineering, and quality teams What You BringEducation Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in: Mechanical Engineering Chemical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Industrial Engineering Materials Engineering or a related engineering discipline Junior, Senior, or recent graduate preferred 3.0 GPA or higher preferred Technical Skills Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering fundamentals Exposure to statistics or Design of Experiments concepts preferred Proficiency in Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) Exposure to Lean manufacturing principles is a plus Familiarity with ISO 9001 or automotive quality systems is beneficial Professional Skills Curious and eager to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to communicate technical information clearly Organized and capable of managing multiple projects EEOC At HSM, we believe that our diversity creates a productive workplace.
