First founded in 1968, SCA has maintained its core mission of maximizing the God-given potential of each student, preparing them to live lives of distinction, by impacting the world for Jesus Christ. We provide a Christian worldview education with academic excellence, arts, and athletics. We are a member of the CESA council of schools and are accredited by Cognia and Exemplary Accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). SCA seeks Christian professionals who are Christ-centered, competent, compassionate, relational, of high character, and who are impassioned in their field. The High School Assistant Principal positionwill report to the Upper School Principal and assist in the overall administration of 9th - 12th grade. This role assists in serving as the educational leader, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, traditional Christian learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school. Achieving academic excellence requires that the person in this position work collaboratively with all members of the school staff and communicate effectively with SCA parents. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for extracurricular activities and on-campus events, discipline and behavior management, student attendance and records, curriculum alignment, and emergency procedures. The person should be someone capable of making difficult decisions, have leadership qualities that include behavior management and relationship building, and hold all these responsibilities with a Biblical worldview. REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES Education: Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree in educational leadership or related degree is strongly preferred. Experience: 2 years as a full-time school administrator or leadership position preferred. 4+ years of prior teaching experience required. Skills: Broad knowledge of educational administration, curriculum, and instruction. Conversant and supportive of a Christian Worldview educational model. Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks. Professional Certifications: Certified Administrator with ACSI (can be achieved upon hire). Must fulfill requirements to maintain ACSI certification. Certified Administrator in Arizona, or another state preferred (candidate should become certified in AZ on their own). Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIESInstructional Leadership: Support Teaching Staff: Observe classrooms, give feedback, and help improve teaching strategies. Participate in the hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff. Professional Development: Plan or facilitate teacher training and workshops. Work with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Upper School Principal to facilitate in-service training/professional development days for staff. Curriculum Oversight: Assist with curriculum planning and alignment with standards. Identify curriculum and procedure inconsistencies and construct a plan of improvement. Data Analysis: Review test scores and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement. Assist in coordinating and implementing required standardized testing programs. Student Support and Discipline: Behavior Management: Enforce the code of conduct and handle disciplinary issues with the assistance of the Dean of Discipline. Assist with data collection and assessments for behavior support services for the purpose of monitoring and reporting progress with identified goals. Attendance Monitoring: Work with the Attendance Clerk to track absences and intervene in cases of chronic absenteeism. Assist in the supervision of student enrollment, records, attendance, and health requirements. Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, with follow-up student/parent contact where necessary. Student Intervention: Collaborate with counselors and teachers on behavior and academic support plans. Along with the Director of Exceptional Student Services, work to ensure the appropriate programming for students and oversee the compiling and implementation of the students' accommodation plans. Student Advisement: Work with assigned Academic Advisor to coordinate student schedules, analyze data for class placement, and provide ongoing assistance in progress monitoring student academics each semester. Oversee student team meetings which may include the Dean of Discipline, School Counselor, directors, teachers, students, and parents to write goals, monitor progress, create plans, and support the academic, behavioral, and emotional needs of students. School Operations: Supervision: Oversee arrival, dismissal, lunch, hallway transitions, and school events. Safety & Emergency Planning: Assist in the day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff, volunteers, and activities. Manage drills, security protocols, and crisis response. Scheduling: Help create and adjust class schedules, testing calendars, or duty rosters. Facilities Oversight: Report and follow up on maintenance needs or building concerns. Staff Management: Evaluations: Assist in teacher evaluations and coaching. Hiring: Participate in interviews and onboarding for new staff. Support Roles: Act as a liaison between staff and the principal for concerns or ideas. Family and Community Engagement: Parent Communication: Meet with parents about academic or behavioral concerns. Event Planning: Help organize open houses, family nights, or other school functions. Community Partnerships: Work with local organizations or churches on student programs. Orientation Events: Assist in implementing new student orientation, back-to-school night and registration activities. Culture and Climate: Student Recognition: Lead initiatives to reward good behavior or academic success. Character Education: Promote core values and life skills as part of the school's mission. Support efforts to create a welcoming and respectful environment for all students. Student Activities: Assist in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of student activities including ACSI competitions, field trips, on-campus events, Student Government, and after school clubs and extra-curricular activities. Other Duties: Ensure compliance with state regulations and accreditation standards. Maintain positive relations with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers. Participate in school-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate. Establish a professional rapport with students and with staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, and school personnel. Serve as a role model for students and staff, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession. Encourage all teachers to do the same. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school and assume leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.
