Position Overview As a Power Workholding & Automation Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting customers, distributors, and Regional Sales Managers on Power Workholding and automation related projects, applications, and after-sales support. This role exists to ensure Carr Lane Manufacturing's Power Workholding and Automation solutions are specified correctly, applied effectively, supported competently, pre- and post-installation. The Specialist does not "own" a territory in the traditional sense, but is accountable for technical success, project velocity, customer confidence, and commercial performance in addition to sales revenue and margins across assigned opportunities. The position operates at the intersection of engineering, sales, distribution, and service, with heavy emphasis on early-stage application support and late-stage problem resolution. Key Responsibilities Project & Application Support Support CLM employees, distributors, and customers on Power Workholding and Automation projects, from concept through commissioning. Assist with application review, product selection, system configuration, and feasibility assessment for hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and hybrid clamping systems. Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and on-site visits to support early specification and solution development. Serve as the technical escalation point for medium-complexity or medium-risk applications. Interface with manufacturers, when CLM is not the manufacturer, on high-complexity and high-risk applications. Distributor & Sales Team Enablement Act as a technical resource for CLM Regional Sales Managers and authorized distributors on Power Workholding and Automation products. Provide training, application guidance, and hands-on support to improve distributor confidence and effectiveness. Support key distributor-driven projects to ensure correct application and reduce late-stage substitutions or failures. Reinforce disciplined project practices (early engagement, correct product selection, realistic expectations). After-Sales & Field Support Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective action for installed power workholding and automation systems. Assist with warranty-related technical evaluations and field resolution as required. Work closely with internal engineering, product management, and operations to close feedback loops from the field. Technical Leadership & Market Feedback Provide structured feedback to product management, engineering, and manufacturers, where applicable, regarding recurring application challenges, competitive pressures, and unmet customer needs. Support trade shows, customer events, and technical presentations as a subject-matter expert. Qualifications Required: Strong technical background in manufacturing, tooling, workholding, automation, or industrial applications Demonstrated experience supporting applications or projects, not just transactional sales Ability to read and interpret drawings, understand fixturing concepts, and discuss manufacturing processes intelligently Comfort working with customers, distributors, and internal sales teams in a consultative role Willingness and ability to travel extensively (expected 50%+ travel), including frequent overnight travel. Occasional international travel may be required to support manufacturers, training, or critical customer engagements. Ability to work periodically from Carr Lane Manufacturing's St. Louis, MO headquarters, typically several days per month. Must hold a valid passport and be eligible for international travel Preferred: Experience with power workholding systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric) Exposure to automation, fixturing, CNC machining, or special machine applications Prior roles in applications engineering, technical sales, or field support Physical Requirements Required: Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Picking, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, Hearing, Repetitive Motions Close visual acuity Subject to noise, hazards, and oils.
