Primary Purpose of Position The Director of Events and Community Engagement provides strategic leadership for implementing outcome-driven events and community engagement initiatives for the College. This role is responsible for developing, managing, and evaluating the events and community engagement components of the College's strategic plan, and oversees the annual work plan and manages activities within the allocated budget. The Director is responsible for planning and executing the college's major events, overseeing all external relations programming, and assisting with college-level fundraising. As a member of the Dean's Executive Team, the Director consults regularly with the Dean and Associate/Assistant Deans on event strategy, promotion, community outreach, and fundraising initiatives. The Director organizes, publicizes, and manages all college-sponsored events, while offering collaborative leadership and mentoring to department chairs/faculty/administrative staff across the College for department-sponsored events. The Director also works collaboratively with university partners to promote the College and its activities using the eCRM system, campus-wide digital messaging screens, and other university tools for managing alumni engagement and communications. Serving as the liaison with the Office of Alumni Affairs and other university offices, the Director helps maintain alumni engagement with the College and its initiatives. In partnership with University Advancement, the role supports donor stewardship (Development), campus fundraising goals, and affinity with the University Alumni Association/College Alumni Council. Through these efforts, the Director nurtures relationships within the community to ensure continued partnership, enhance donor support, and expand scholarship opportunities for the College and our students. Summary of Position Responsibilities Develop, manage, and evaluate events and community engagement components of the College's strategic plan, and oversee the annual work plan. Possess project management skills and soft skills necessary to shepherd projects and people through successive stages of planning, budgeting, and monitoring deadlines. Manage the Events and Community Engagement budget, work plans, and relationships with vendors and service providers. Fully manage approximately 10+ projects per year, and provide oversight for approximately 6 projects that are sponsored financially by the Dean, and 14 lecture programs for two senior communities. Mentor faculty/department staff on project launching to ensure successful completion, how to navigate problems, and/or facilitate promotional efforts in compliance with University brand standards. Collaborate with leadership to plan, develop, and execute communication strategies and initiatives that will support the overall mission of the College and the goals outlined in the College's strategic plan. Collaborate with Advancement and Alumni Affairs to strategically plan and execute communications that will contribute to development goals and increase alumni affinity for the college. Develop and recommend strategies in the area of external relations, communications, and marketing that support the College's overall mission and contribute towards the goals outlined in the College's strategic plan. Proactively consult with the Dean, University Communications, and Advancement on major external relations initiatives. Maintain extensive knowledge and understanding of university policies, ensuring all communications fall within prescribed guidelines. Establish annual goals and deadlines for the college's external relations programming. Report to the Dean and serve on the Dean's Executive Team. Advise the Dean on matters related to the College's events, community engagement, and strategic organizational communications. Serve as the primary college liaison to key leadership groups across campus, including University Communications and Alumni Council. Develop strategies for recruitment, engagement, and giving. Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience A bachelor's Degree and three years of experience related to College External Relations and Community Engagement are preferred. Advanced experience with Microsoft and Google Suite Software is desired. Three years of experience with customer service, donor relations, and event management is highly preferred. Familiarity with E-procurement, eCRM systems, and Banner is preferred. Experience with Photoshop and website management tools is a plus.
