Salary: $20.00 Hourly Location : Bremerton, WA Job Type: SEASONAL Job Number: 2026-00009 Department: Public Works and Utilities Division: Utility Operations Opening Date: 03/10/2026 Closing Date: Continuous General FunctionThere are 4 positions, as follows: Utility Maintenance/Water - 2 positions budgeted for 40 hours a week for 26 weeks Utility Maintenance/Sewer-Storm - 2 positions budgeted for 40 hours a week for 26 weeks Under supervision, performs manual work and operates hand tools and small equipment to maintain drainage ditches, culverts, detention/retention ponds, and grounds, including maintenance facility, water distribution, sewer, and stormwater systems for the Public Works and Utilities Department. Representative Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Note - this list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position.) Participate as an active team member of a crew. Capable of following guidelines, established maintenance practices and safety regulations. Assist in maintaining drainage ditches, culvers, detention/retention ponds, and grounds, including maintenance facility. Other Duties: -Regular attendance is an essential requirement -Performs related work as assigned and/or required Knowledge of: Methods, equipment and materials associated with water works practices; Operational characteristics, service and maintenance of water supply, storage, transmission, pumping and service; Safe working practices and procedures; Operation and use of hand and power tools and related equipment; Health and safety regulations and procedures; Proper lifting techniques. Ability to: Operate and maintain assigned tools and equipment; Work cooperatively with other departments and divisions; Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Qualifying Education and Experience (Minimum Requirements) High School graduate or GED equivalent preferred; Previous experience in utility facilities maintenance or related field; Valid Washington State driver's license; Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Heavy physical labor. Lifting in excess of 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Employee risks physical hazard from mechanical equipment, traffic and exposure to noise, fumes and paint. Physical effort is required to perform heavy manual labor in uncomfortable, confined and dirty conditions. Sick Leave Sick leave is accrued at the rate of one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every forty (40) hours you work. The City of Bremerton's accrual year is January 1 st through December 31st . Forty (40) hours of unused, accrued paid sick leave will be carried over to the next year. Accrued, unused leave over forty (40) hours will be forfeited. You may use accrued paid sick leave beginning ninety (90) calendar days after the start of your employment. Retirement - Some positions may be eligible for membership in the Public Employment Retirement System (PERS). If the position is eligible employees will be required to join. If you have an account established in PERS prior to October 1, 1977, Plan 1 would apply or after October 1, 1977, Plan 2 or 3 would apply. If you have not already made a plan choice, you have the option of Plan 2 or Plan 3. You have 90 days from your employment date to choose between Plan 2 and Plan 3. If you have not decided within 90 days of employment, you will automatically be enrolled in Plan 2.
