Job Description

Overview: Department: Emergency Department Shift: Night Shift, 12-Hour Full-Time The Emergency Department Registered Nurse delivers exceptional patient care and plays a vital role in a fast-paced, acute care setting. Utilizing the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—you will provide direct patient care, lead support staff, and educate patients and their families, all while adhering to professional nursing standards. This is an exciting opportunity for those passionate about making a difference in critical situations. Responsibilities: Deliver direct patient care in the Emergency Department during night shifts, including triage, assessments, monitoring, and interventions. Utilize the nursing process to create and execute personalized care plans for each patient. Monitor patient conditions, vital signs, and telemetry; respond proactively to changes in status. Effectively communicate patient conditions, diagnostic results, and treatment plans with physicians and the healthcare team. Administer medications, IV therapy, and emergency interventions according to established protocols and orders. Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, discharge instructions, and follow-up care. Supervise and coordinate activities of LVNs/LPNs and nursing assistants as necessary. Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. Ensure compliance with EMTALA and report any suspected cases of abuse to the appropriate authorities. Participate in emergency response initiatives, trauma resuscitation, and critical care stabilization efforts. Contribute to patient safety initiatives and evidence-based practices in emergency nursing. Qualifications: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING Current and valid state RN License. Current BLS certification at the time of hire and maintain status. ACLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintain status. PALS certification and/or ENPC within 30 days of hire and maintain status. Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation certification within 30 days of hire. A minimum of one year’s experience as a registered nurse in an acute care hospital; emergency room experience preferred. Certification as an Emergency Nurse (CEN) is preferred. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Facility Specific Requirements: 1. In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN certification within 12 months of hire. 2. Completion of emergency pediatric courses 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire at EDAP certified facilities. 3. NRP certification within 90 days of hire for non-OB facilities. 4. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire is required.
