Must have both inpatient and outpatient EEG experience. License: In process of obtaining ABRET registration. Certifications: - Must-Have: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of program at an accredited EEG school. 2 years experience in lieu of EEG school training. Description: The EEG Technician is responsible for performing all varieties of electro neurophysiology monitoring. This position operates the equipment and processes data to generate reports. Obtains medical seizure history from the patient, including contraindications to proposed treatment. Educates patients and families about the procedure. Monitors patients continuously during the procedure, reporting seizure activity to nursing staff and responding appropriately to patient emergencies. Works with neurologists and neurosurgeons using various types of electrodes. Records electrophysiology data from the patient and makes adjustments as needed. Uses special montages, focuses and adjusts the camera, and recognizes artifacts. Performs standard activation procedures to generate reports and reviews data with the physician. Provides in-service training for staff members. Maintains the electrophysiology monitoring unit equipment and trouble-shoots problems. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care specific to those needs. Communicates with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their level of understanding. Adheres to the standards identified in the organization's competencies.
