Salary: $19.90 - $25.40 Hourly Location : City of Walnut Job Type: Part-Time/Seasonal/No benefits Job Number: 2026-04 Department: Community Services Opening Date: 02/11/2026 JOB DESCRIPTION Are you passionate about aquatics, safety, and customer service? The City of Walnut is recruiting a Pool Manager to assist with pool operations, supervise staff, and uphold high standards of safety and professionalism. Under general supervision, will be responsible for the safety of patrons in the summer aquatics program for the City of Walnut's Community Services Department. Will oversee the daily on-site management of allaquatic programming at Walnut High School. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSResponsible for staff supervision and facility operation including life guarding, lesson instructions, and staff training in first aid techniques (including, but not limited to CPR, water rescues, and emergency procedures). Assist in selecting, testing, training, scheduling, and evaluating, Lifeguards and Swim Instructors. Maintain a safe environment for pool patrons. Ensures department policies are followed; enforces the rules and regulations of the pool Provide training for staff in all facets of aquatic operations. Assist with planning, coordinating and implementing a variety of aquatic activities and programs. Supervises daily facility maintenance. Deal firmly and tactfully with pool patrons; exercise tact and judgment when resolving problems. Interact with co-workers at all levels of the City and the public in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner; exercise tact and judgment when resolving problems. Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as required. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Principles of aquatics and management involving public pool facilities. Principles of employee training and supervision. State aquatics licensing standards and health and safety management. Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid practices and rescuer and lifesaving methods. Basic customer service practices and techniques. City policies and procedures. Safety precautions and procedures related to assigned facility. Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment and computers, basic record-keeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work. English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Ability to: Plan, schedule, and coordinate pool operations/aquatics programs in accordance with State permit requirements and industry standards. Swim with proficiency and endurance; structure, organize, and conduct swimming instruction for various age groups, from beginning through advanced skill levels. Handle rescues and medical emergencies in a calm and effective manner; provide first aid and CPR as needed. Conduct incident investigations and prepare accident, incident, and operating reports. Train supervise and evaluate the work of aquatics personnel staff. Use recreation software and basic computer applications. Communicate clearly with staff and the public. Maintain a safe and positive program environment. Work a varied schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Follow proper safety rules and procedures. Effectively work, communicate, and maintain cooperative working relationships with pool patrons, supervision and management, staff, and those contacted in the course of work, including City staff and the public. Experience and Training: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: A minimum of two (2) years' experience in aquatics instruction, including supervisory experience. Training: Graduation from High School or G.E.D. equivalent and some completed college coursework preferred. License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License. Possession of an American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate for Professional Rescuer. Possession of an America Red Cross Title 22 Certification. Possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Working Conditions: Work in an indoor environment with prolonged sitting and in an outdoor environment including prolonged swimming, exposure to sun, standing, walking, twisting, kneeling, stopping, crouching, squatting, stooping, bending, and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties; work on slippery and uneven surfaces; ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds;up to 100 pounds during rescues; exposure to sun, may be exposed to chlorine and other pool chemicals; prolonged exposure to the sun; have mobility, acute vision, acute hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties performed. Part-time, at-will work; evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. SICK LEAVE: 40 Hours of Sick Leave Annually RETIREMENT: Seasonal, Part-Time employees are required to participate in the defered compensation plan with Narionwide at a rate of 7.75%, which is deducted from employee's pay.
