As part of our involvement, Jefferson Industries Corporation offers design and development for press dies and other tools necessary to produce automotive products. We embrace programs for product development including product design review and Advanced Product Quality Planning. Our facilities support high quality product manufacturing, and we provide a timely and flexible approach to meeting the needs of our customers. We are actively seeking a Production Assistant Manager to join our Welding Department on 1st Shift (core schedule, Monday through Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm) Position Description Note - The following is not intended to be all-inclusive. Business conditions change and develop, as well as the individual develops requiring flexibility, straight forward communication, and forward thinking to prepare and adapt to change. The individual is expected to grow within these guidelines focusing on excellence within the role. You work in a friendly and courteous manner providing an accurate flow of communication. (both internal and external). This will prepare the individual for potential future positions as the business needs require and the individual demonstrates their contribution and potential. Your position is responsible for providing professional and dependable service and to develop our Team's capability to deliver JIC's key objectives to all our customers and suppliers. You will have a complete understanding of all customer/supplier requirements. Your understanding of JIC's Management Policy "To become the best supplier" through our philosophy and guiding principles "Safety, Morale, Quality, Cost & Delivery" is imperative. This role will be measured against specific targets as noted in the departmental business plan. 1. Role: To oversee Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and Management activities in assigned Weld Zones including daily operations as well as continuous improvement. 2. Responsibilities: Responsible for assisting with the management of Welding Dept including the supervision of assigned Coordinators. Assist with managing SQCDM activities, improving and stabilizing key areas and COP. Assess production floor and assist with manpower, equipment, quality, productivity, associate and safety issues. Assist with reviewing and prioritizing equipment, quality and production issues. Assist with required reporting including Business Plan, inventories, production reporting and any other production issues. Coordinate activities with opposite shift production. 3. Job Description: Safety • Visually monitoring daily of all assigned associates wearing their PPE. (This includes during reworks and other abnormal situations) • Visually monitor daily the Lock - Out procedure is being practiced correctly. • Visually monitor daily proper Parts Handling practices. (Examples: Lifting parts over ones shoulders, picking up too many parts, push/pull practices, etc...) • Walk your assigned area and direct associates to the proper locations in emergency situations or drills. • Assist as needed in head counts and report to security on channel 1. • Visually monitoring daily associates work area being free from clutter. (Clear and open aisle ways, no totes on the floor, etc.) • Recognize and address all Safety concerns/violations in their assigned areas. Quality • Understand all Quality Requirements in their area. Follow all JIC Quality Procedures and Work Instructions. • Read QA White Board Notes at the start of each shift. • Oversee that information has been communicated to associates and leadership by checking daily with individuals. Ask associate questions and insure they have been informed. • Oversee daily dock checks are being performed according to types of issue that arise. • Visually monitor training is taking place and all associates have been trained on their Work Instructions. Cost • Confirm daily that production is met in the most efficient way possible. • Make judgment daily of disposition of all Rework and Scrap parts in Weld Department. • Oversee all overtime worked and keep to minimum. • Visually check tip, glove, markers, small tools, radio's, etc. usage to maintain budgets for Weld Department. • Verify Coordinator timesheet, checking hours worked and that the sheet is complete. Delivery • Visually monitor daily, Labeling Procedures are being followed according to Work Instructions. • Visually monitor daily, lines with Basket Counters and insure they are being used and count is correct. • Monitor daily production requirements and update schedule every 2hrs to ensure production is being met according to customer requirements and shipping schedules. • Monitor and communicate daily, any ongoing issues with equipment, parts delivery to weld line, etc. that effects production builds to Weld Manager and department Manager that issue is occurring in. • Assist in verification of Plex Production Summary discrepancies when contact by Coordinator or Team Leader. Management • Following a Safety, Quality, Cost or Delivery incident/accident in your assigned area, it is your responsibility to notify Weld Manager, investigate, ensure countermeasure activity has been completed and all paper work was completed. (Incident Report, 5-Why, HTR, DTR, etc.) • Visually Check weekly that start up meeting are being conducted by Coordinator daily. • Assist Leadership Team daily on adjustments of manpower to fulfill all weld lines and requirements. • Track and report daily manpower and report shortages to HR and Manager. • Communicate daily with all departments as production issues arise. • Report downtime to Manager and Maint Manager if longer than 45 minutes. • Perform Coaching and Counseling with associates as needed on timely basis. • Walk area daily checking weld lines cleanliness to insure 5-S is being completed. • Daily communicate with the opposite shift using the Weld Communication format. • Support all New Model activities. • Complete a time sheet if overtime is worked, turn it into HR by the end of the work week with Manager's signature. • Complete Coordinator evaluations yearly as scheduled. • Verify Team Leader evaluations yearly as scheduled. • Oversee associate vacation days are being scheduled effectively, all paperwork is complete and turned into HR. • Follow TS-16949 & ISO-14001 Policy and Work Instructions. • Oversee completion of daily paperwork is being completed and turned in at the end of the shift/week. • Oversee, Perform, and Coordinate training as needed. • Oversee, Invesitgate, Adjust and Train on all Plex issues as they arise. • Attend any meetings requested by Manager. (Quality, Business Plan, Shift, Manager's, etc.) • Over see Plex (Weekly cycle counts being performed and completed, Associates and the Management Team understand and are using Plex, everything is being scanned (No Scanning ahead)) JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:Interpersonal Skills: Possess skills to communicate with associates, management team, other department managers and senior management. Leadership Skills: Strong communication skills to provide direction and motivation to team members. Able to motivate associates and team members to keep process and equipment in good condition to assure smooth running operation. Problem-Solving Skills: Able to quickly ascertain a situation and be decisive in identifying defects and solving problems with equipment and process to avoid missed quality, delivery or safety concerns. Time Management: Develop task list and assure on-time implementation of tasks. Computer Skills: Able to operate with basic Office computer software, including Word, Excel and Power Point. Assists to prepare reports and presentations for group discussions. EDUCATION, MATH LANGUAGE AND/OR EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Extensive related experience. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent to draw and interpret mathematical data and graphs. EXPECTATIONS OF A STRONG ASSISTANT MANAGER Must be passionate, highly motivated individual to lead a Weld Department. Performs above Essential Duties & Responsibilities in satisfactory manner. Works on building relationships and collaborating with Weld Department management to ensure proper utilization of lines and equipment. Must be self-starter with own continuous improvement agenda. Must have the mental discipline, persistence and confidence to effectively function.
