We believe that the human element, across our global teams, is what allows us to continually evolve. Join us and discover an environment in which you'll be supported to learn, grow and become your best self. Become a maker of possible with us. Position Summary The newly formed Global Sales Operations & Effectiveness organization is leading the transformation of sales capabilities, positioning BD to become the strongest commercial organization in MedTech. The Associate Director, Commercial Systems reports to the Senior Director, Global Commercial Technology and is accountable for the strategy, governance, and lifecycle management of BD's global portfolio of commercial sales technologies outside of core CRM and Revenue platforms. This role brings intentional ownership and rigor to a highly complex and fragmented commercial technology landscape spanning Regions, Business Units, and functional needs. The Director will partner closely with the Director, Global CRM Technology and the Director, Global Commercial Revenue Technology to drive a cohesive commercial application rationalization strategy, ensuring clarity on platform boundaries, ownership, and future-state direction. The Associate Director, Commercial Systems serves as the enterprise champion for new commercial sales technology, acting as the first line of evaluation when Business Units or Regions seek to introduce new tools (including AI-enabled solutions). The Associate Director is responsible for determining which capabilities should be standardized globally, which should remain regional or Business Unit specific, and which should be deprecated or consolidated to reduce redundancy, cost, and complexity. This position also functions as the incubation engine for commercial innovation-piloting, validating, and scaling new capabilities that measurably improve productivity, insight, and execution-while maintaining alignment with enterprise architecture, security, data, and procurement standards. Key Responsibilities Commercial Systems Strategy & Ownership Own the global strategy and roadmap for non-core commercial technologies, aligned to enterprise architecture, commercial priorities, and long-term platform direction. Define and maintain clear boundaries between core platforms (Salesforce, CPQ, CLM) and the ancillary commercial technology ecosystem. Partner closely with internal IT, Global Marketing, and Global Sales Operations leadership to drive end-to-end sales technology application rationalization, dependency management, and roadmap alignment. Technology Intake & Enterprise Gatekeeping Act as the first line of defense when Business Units or Regions propose new sales technologies, including AI-driven tools. Establish and enforce intake criteria for evaluating new tools based on strategic fit, functional overlap, scalability, integration, security, cost, and long-term viability. Collaborate with Global Marketing and Global Sales Operations leadership to ensure proposed tools do not duplicate or undermine core platform capabilities. Make explicit approve / redirect / stop decisions to protect the integrity of the global commercial technology ecosystem. Tool Standardization, Rationalization & Scale Identify commercial tools and capabilities that can be standardized across all Business Units and Regions. Own and implement a global tool consolidation and deprecation strategy to reduce redundancy, complexity, and total cost of ownership. Maintain a comprehensive inventory of commercial sales technologies, including usage, value realization, overlap, risk, and lifecycle status. Drive migration from fragmented or legacy solutions toward approved enterprise standards, in coordination with CRM, CPQ, and CLM product leadership. Evolve strategy with an eye toward future M&A activity to minimize business disruption. Innovation Scouting & Controlled Incubation Continuously scan the external market for best-in-class and emerging commercial technologies. Design and lead structured pilots, proofs of concept, and controlled experiments with clear success criteria. Partner with internal IT, Security, Privacy, Architecture, Procurement, Global Marketing, and Global Sales Operations to ensure pilots meet enterprise and platform requirements. Scale validated innovations into governed, supported solutions-or explicitly shut them down based on evidence. Commercial Enablement & Business Impact Enable sales productivity, insight, and execution by ensuring commercial tools align with end-to-end commercial workflows. Partner with Global Sales Intelligence, Global Marketing, Global Sales Enablement, Revenue Operations, and core platform product owners to ensure tools enhance-not fragment-data and process integrity. Assess, define, measure, and report on commercial tool ecosystem progress against targeted business outcomes (e.g., return on investment, adoption, productivity, cycle-time, usage, risk reduction, customer experience, cost savings). Governance, Risk & Compliance Establish and enforce governance for non-core commercial tools, including data usage, privacy, security, vendor risk, and compliance. Ensure alignment with enterprise integration standards, architecture principles, and procurement policies. Embed guardrails that allow innovation while maintaining enterprise control. Qualifications 8+ years of experience in consulting, commercial technology, product management, digital transformation, or related roles within large, global organizations preferred. Preferred industry experience: Pharma, Consulting, FinTech, MedTech. 4+ years of experience managing individual contributors and/or leading teams preferred. Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience) required; advanced degree preferred. Experience evaluating and piloting emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions. Proven experience defining and completing a deprecation strategy for technology, tools, and/or portfolio at enterprise scale. Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguity and make effective trade-off decisions. Strong product mentality with comfort owning complex, non-standardized technology landscapes. Experience collaborating with enterprise architects, security, integration teams, and platform product owners. Experience working with global System Integrators (e.g., PwC, Deloitte, Accenture, Capgemini, Ascend) in outcome-oriented partnership models. Experience leading cross-functional global programs and operating in complex matrixed environments. Experience partnering with IT and other cross functional team members to drive design and execute a technology roadmap. Leadership Attributes Thrives and can lead in an environment of ambiguity and evolving priorities in large-scale transformation programs. Demonstrated ability to influence without authority across a global matrix. Product-minded leader with the ability to balance strategic vision and technical depth. Clear, structured communicator who translates complexity into executive-ready narratives. Forward thinking anticipates problems before they occur. Strong ownership mentality, intellectual curiosity, and bias toward action. Autonomy, willingness to challenge status quo, and high learning agility. Strong organizational and political acumen; comfortable navigating complex global environments. Data-driven decision-maker with a focus on measurable business outcomes.
