A challenging opportunity is available for an experienced Stepdown/PCU Registered Nurse seeking a contract position in Chatham, IL. This role supports an acute care, Magnet-designated, Level I trauma hospital known for excellence in patient care and professional development. The position offers 12-hour night shifts, providing continuity and focused care for critical patients in a telemetry and stepdown environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit setting. Utilize skills in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response including rapid response team participation. Manage complex cardiovascular cases including post-cardiac cath procedures, sheath removal, and vasoactive drips. Deliver specialized care in respiratory management such as ventilator support, tracheostomy, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway techniques. Oversee neurological, orthopedic, and plastic surgery patient care requirements including wound care and post-surgical management. Administer IV therapy, blood products, and manage central and peripheral lines. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement isolation precautions and patient care protocols. Maintain accurate electronic documentation using Cerner. Qualifications / Desired Experience: Active Illinois RN license with minimum one year of stepdown or PCU nursing experience (no first-timers). BLS and NIH certifications required; ACLS preferred. Proficient in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and critical care nursing. Prior experience in telemetry, neuro stepdown, PCU/IMC, teaching hospitals, and Level I trauma centers is preferred. Ability to work three 12-hour night shifts per week (with flexibility for four 12-hour shifts), including every other weekend. Willingness to float within scope as needed. Knowledge of Cerner electronic health records advantageous.
