Etchison, SPHR, Human Resources Business Partner - ManagerPosition SummaryThe Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing food processing and packaging equipment to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role supports the facility's SQF certified food safety and quality management system by ensuring equipment, utilities, and infrastructure are maintained in sanitary, safe operating condition. The position requires strict compliance with OSHA safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (29 CFR 1910.147), electrical safety, and confined space requirements, with familiarity supporting boiler systems, ammonia refrigeration systems, and wastewater treatment operations as applicable. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform these functions:Equipment Maintenance & Repair (SQF – Equipment & Infrastructure)Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on food processing, packaging, and facility equipmentTroubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systemsRepair or replace worn, damaged, or defective componentsVerify equipment is restored to safe, sanitary operating condition prior to production releaseFood Safety & Sanitary Design CompliancePerform maintenance activities using hygienic maintenance practices to prevent product contaminationProtect exposed product zones and food-contact surfaces during maintenanceIdentify and report equipment conditions that may pose food safety or foreign material risksSupport allergen and preventive maintenance programsLockout/Tagout (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147)Perform lockout/tagout procedures prior to servicing, maintenance, or repair activitiesApply and remove personal lock(s) and tag(s) in accordance with the facility Energy Control ProgramVerify isolation of all hazardous energy sources and confirm zero-energy stateMaintain control of lockout devices and keys throughout maintenance activitiesNever bypass or defeat guards, interlocks, or safety devicesElectrical Safety (OSHA / NFPA 70E Awareness)Perform electrical work only within the scope of training and authorizationFollow electrical safety procedures, including verification of de-energized equipment prior to workUse appropriate tools, PPE, and safeguards when working on or near electrical systemsIdentify and report electrical hazards, damaged components, or unsafe conditionsConfined Space Safety (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146)Comply with the facility's Confined Space Entry ProgramParticipate in confined space entry only after required training and authorizationFollow permit-required confined space procedures, including atmospheric testing, ventilation, and attendant requirementsNever enter confined spaces without proper permits, monitoring, and controls in placeBoiler & Utility Systems (Support Role)Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance tasks on boiler systems and related utilities within scope of trainingMonitor boiler operation indicators and report abnormal conditionsSupport licensed or certified boiler operators as requiredFollow boiler safety procedures and escalation protocolsWastewater Treatment Familiarity (Support Role)Demonstrate working knowledge of onsite wastewater treatment processes and system componentsPerform basic maintenance or inspections on wastewater equipment as assigned and trainedIdentify and report operational issues, alarms, or environmental concernsSupport environmental compliance activities under direction of qualified personnelAmmonia Refrigeration System Familiarity (OSHA / EPA Awareness)Demonstrate working knowledge of anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems and associated hazardsPerform maintenance tasks on ammonia systems only within scope of training and authorizationFollow site ammonia safety procedures, PPE requirements, and emergency response protocolsIdentify and report ammonia leaks, alarms, or unsafe conditions immediatelySupport preventive maintenance, inspections, and documentation for ammonia systemsComply with applicable OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA RMP requirements as directedSafety & Regulatory ComplianceFollow all OSHA and site safety requirements, including PPE, hazard communication, and emergency response proceduresReport unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediatelySupport FSMA Preventive Controls related to equipment and facility maintenanceDocumentation & Recordkeeping (SQF – Records & Verification)Complete maintenance work orders, PM records, inspection logs, and LOTO documentation accuratelyDocument repairs, parts usage, and equipment status changesMaintain records required for audits, inspections, and compliance verificationCollaboration & SupportCoordinate maintenance activities with production, sanitation, QA, and utilities teamsSupport sanitation during equipment teardown and reassemblyAssist with line startups, changeovers, and shutdownsAttendance & ReliabilityMaintain regular and predictable attendanceRespond to emergency maintenance calls and work off-shift, weekend, or on-call schedules as requiredMarginal (Non-Essential) FunctionsAssist with installation or modification of equipment and utilitiesParticipate in continuous improvement, reliability, or capital projectsSupport special maintenance or facility initiativesRequired QualificationsAbility to safely perform maintenance tasks following training and authorizationAbility to comply with LOTO, electrical safety, and confined space requirementsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsPreferred QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED;
