ABOUT OUR DISTRICT: The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and she is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with her in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K-12. Of these students, 82.3% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 20.1% are served by the Office of Special Education, and 83% are students of color. Substitute Teachers lead instruction in assigned classrooms in the absence of regular classroom teachers. Substitute Teachers are responsible for helping students build knowledge and skills according to teacher-planned lessons. We are specifically looking for experienced, retired teachers to support Lincoln Middle School on a flexible, per diem, basis. REPORTS TO: Building Principal JOB DESCRIPTION: The Dean of Students will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities: Involvement in student discipline and supervising extracurricular activities Evidence of ability to create positive connections with students Development of programs to enhance student commitment to learning while promoting safety and harmony Establish and enforce high standards for excellence with students, teachers, and staff Effectively plan and take action to achieve goals and objectives under the direction of the principal Other duties as assigned, which may include instructional leadership (e.g., coaching, mentoring, walkthroughs) as required to meet school goals QUALIFICATIONS: All candidates must possess New York State Adult Education teacher certification. Bachelors Degree, strongly preferred Strong organizational and communication skills Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire. Training and/or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred) The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $101.75 to the candidate.
