Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) - Family Birthing Center Sherman Hospital Elgin, IL Schedule: 40 hours evening/nights Two 12 Hours Shifts 7p-7a Two 8-hour shifts may have some flexibility. Days and times may be adjusted based on unit needs, meetings, or flexibility for individual needs. To support and ensure clinical patient care leadership. To provide clinical leadership to plan, coordinate and manage personnel and resources in order to provide the highest quality patient care with trained, professional and competent staff in the most cost-effective manner. To collaborate with physicians and other health care disciplines to assure optimal patient care. Primary PurposeAssist PCC leadership with day to day operation to ensure high quality and cost effective patient care Major Responsibilities Serves in the role of Charge Nurse. Assigns patient and non-patient care in a safe, effective mannerMaintains staffing requirements in accordance with established policies, patient volumeCollaborates with physicians, management and other healthcare professionals to assure the deliver of quality care and high patient satisfactionContributes to achieving system, site and unit goals by prioritizing duties and responsibilitiesAssures accurate reporting of census, acuity and staffing at predetermined timesAssures that Point of Care Testing/Code Carts/Code Boxes are accounted forAssures appropriate supplies are available to staff via LawsonMonitors/Edits Report Express Reports in a timely mannerEnsures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, i.e., federal, state, city, Accrediting Organization, IDPH and all hospital policies and procedures.Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiativesPractices the principles of Performance Improvement in order to contribute to positive patient outcomes Responds to issues/concerns of patients and families in a timely manner. Refers complex issues to managementDemonstrates positive support and participation in unit base performance improve plan, indicators and outcomesMake recommendations for improvement. Contributes to achieving system, site and unit goals Assists in the Performance Improvement ProcessDemonstrates and maintains a current knowledge of Mission, Philosophy, Policies and ProceduresServes as a clinical resource to staffCollaborates with members of the health care team to facilitate the Care Management processServes as a role model for Service First in practice and facilitation of staff adherence to Service First courtesy standards and scripts Facilitates Service RecoveryTakes initiative with problem resolution and conflict management when presented with issues/concernsParticipates with PCC leadership to provide positive work environment for staff in terms of growth and development and job satisfaction Refers major rule violations/work performance issues to management utilizing the established chain of command.Assists with data collection/tracking for education/in-service of assigned staff.Assists with the development of staff competencies and skills checklists.Facilitates staff attendance at in-services by providing appropriate coverage of unit.Practices positive coaching/mentoring skills to foster staff growth and development.Conducts timely and objective performance pathways for assigned staff subject to review with management prior to presentation to staffAssesses educational needs of the staff and facilitates education opportunities. Coordinates orientation of new staff in conjunction with the MCO and APNAssists individuals with identifying professional goals and provides opportunities to achieve these goalsAddresses staff concerning matters involving minor performance variances and minor disciplinary counselingConsults with management if written disciplinary action is warranted Responsible for personal/professional growth and developmentKeeps abreast of current standards of care via literature, educational events, internal and external resources and networkingProactively seek out education as opportunities. Earn 10 continuing education hours annually. 8 of the 10 continuing education hours must be Pediatric specific.Participates in activities to enhance professional growth by involvement in professional organization and continuing education.Maintains clinical expertise in pediatrics. Serves as a resource and role model for clinical care.Serves on various unit and hospital committees to increase knowledge and networking skills Licensure:Nurse, Registered (RN) Education/Experience Required:Typically requires 3 years experience in specialty area and may require specialty-focused continuing education and/or certifications based upon department discretion. L&D, Mother Baby, SCN Experience Required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Ability to assume charge/schedule coordinator role Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse work group Skills specific to each unit's specialtyCPR Illinois Licensed Professional Registered Nurse Certification relative to specialty area, if applicable. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to travel locally Ability to work within stressful conditions and difficult situations Resilient and flexible in changing environment May be exposed to hazardous material and threatening diseases Ability to cooperate and work well with others Ability to make sound and timely decisions Ability to perform lifting and bending Demonstrates the ability to recognize the needs of behaviors of variety of age groups of patients treated i.e. understands child development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards. Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
