Posting Details Position Information Job Title Maintenance Mechanic III Classification TitleDepartment Campus Operations Work Location ALL SITES Duties Under the general direction and supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, constructs facilities as required, maintains and repairs all college electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling systems. Programs and operates building automation system. The Maintenance Mechanic III is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning. Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned: 1. Receives work assignments, work orders, and instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor. 2. Study and interpret construction; mechanical or electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings or sketches to construct new facilities; to install new equipment or troubleshoot mechanical or electrical problems; plans and determines working procedures and tool and materials requirements. 3. Correct defective mechanical devices and other equipment by disassembling, installing new parts, welding or refitting; adjusts and maintains mechanical equipment. 4. Install air, water, gas and refrigerant lines; repairs and maintains plumbing. 5. Repair and maintain temperature control systems. 6. Repair and maintain plumbing. 7. Repair and maintain all college HVAC systems. 8. Repair and maintain AC & DC electrical systems. 9. Repair and maintain electronic equipment and systems. 10. Operate and program the building automation system. 11. Regularly inspect mechanical, electrical and HVAC equipment. 12. May be responsible for the maintenance of the college's swimming pool if certified as an Illinois Swimming Pool Operator. 13. Assist in job training for designated maintenance staff. 14. Clean boilers, add chemicals to boiler water, cooling towers and close water system. Makes chemical tests as required and keeps boiler house log. 15. Responsible for housekeeping in his/her work area and work sites. 16. Perform related duties as assigned. Education/ExperienceMinimum of five (5) years of work experience as a skilled Maintenance Mechanic required. High school or general education degree (GED), plus vocational, technical or educational certificate within electronics, electricity or heating and air conditioning program, OR the coursework of an approved on-the-job training or job training Program of forty months required. Must possess valid driver's license. Completion of an introduction to Mini/Micro Computer course or Basic Computer course; Illinois Swimming Pool Operators certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health preferred. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Maintenance Mechanic III must have the ability to read and comprehend blueprints and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively and respond to college personnel; basic computational skills; ability to work independently and exercise good judgment; demonstrate required knowledge of test equipment, shop machinery and hand tools to perform diverse repair operations; demonstrate knowledge of heating and cooling systems in order to troubleshoot and make extensive repairs; demonstrate knowledge of building automation systems including basic programming and ability to make modifications of the systems; possess a positive and service oriented attitude. Will require the employee to be on-call for weekend work when necessary. Valid Driver's License. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use a ladder, scaffolding, and bucket truck; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Position Status Full Time Hours General Hours Monday-Friday 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM Will require the employee to be on-call for weekend/other work when necessary.
