Job Summary: Supports and maintains PRL's high specification welding capabilities, and all areas of manufacturing as needed. Job Qualifications: Education: Must be enrolled in a 4-year Welding Engineering or Mechanical Engineering program. Experience: Familiar with welding related processes. Skills: Hands on welding experience and good understanding of all welding processes. Job Duties and Responsibilities:Develop weld procedure qualification that are required for production or update current weld procedures, review material specifications and filler material specifications to determine how to repair base material. Write new welding procedures in accordance with code/specifications required. Review code/specifications for welding procedure requirements, contact customers with regards to changes that are being requested to WPS. Administrator for navy welding procedure software. Order filler material when needed, order filler material to required specification, review filler material certifications once received. Print out hold tags and green tags for filler material use. Contact for filler material issues from vendors (Arcos, Esab etc.). Update and maintain filler material lot sheets used by tool room and production. Update of filler material spread sheet. Point of contact welding issues/codes/specifications. Review weld joint design to determine the most optimal welding process. Work with welders on technique and new process training. Performs welder audits on an as needed basis and reports results back to the PRL Production Manager and maintain the records. Complete root cause and corrective actions related to welding issues. Review RT film weld rejections to understand the possible cause of the failure and preventative actions to eliminate the possible cause. Support calls with various navy shipyards to review welding related issues. Promote safety policies and procedures. Physical and Mental Efforts: General: Good mobility required, some moderate to heavy lifting possible. Position requires ability to walk and stand for long durations; see objects closely; and hear normal sounds with some background noises. Position requires ability to concentrate with some interruption and attend to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.
