Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm flexible schedule Position Overview: The Assistant Controller is an integral leader of the Finance Team, working under the guidance of the Controller. This position is responsible for managing the organization's financial operations, ensuring compliance with State Cost Principles and GAAP, and assisting with financial reporting and analysis. Accounting activities include overseeing day to day accounting operations, preparing and reviewing journal entries, preparing and reviewing account reconciliations, supporting payroll, designing and monitoring process improvements, and monitoring adherence to internal controls. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Leadership • Supervises, mentors and trains finance staff to ensure high performance standards • Impacts entire organization with preparation of annual budgets that meet the organizations mission while maintaining financial stability • Present "Budget to Actual Results" to program management and work to solve budgetary shortfalls Accounting and Fiscal Management: • Manages day-to-day accounting operations to ensure all bills are paid timely, collection rates meet target, and payroll is accurately processed • Oversees general ledger expense allocations, account reconciliations, and journal entries • Assists the Controller in preparation of materials for senior leadership and the Board • Researches, prepares analysis, and responds to financial inquiries • Responsible for filing annual reports with grantors • Assists with preparation of financial statements • Supports annual financial statement audit, federal single audit, state single audit, and 401(k) retirement plan audits. • Assists with the preparation of the 990 and 990-T Other • Work closely with the Controller and CFO on technology issues, particularly as it relates to the accounting software and staff training • Identifies and designs process improvements to bolster automation, efficiency and scale while maintaining proper controls • Performs other duties as assigned Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes: • Ability to produce accurate financial reporting meeting grantor requirements including DMHAS and DDS • Ability to work independently and lead a team to find solutions and execute projects • Exhibits professionalism, resourceful problem solving, and diplomacy • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail including the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks • Manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion and judgment • Ability to work flexibly in high pressure environment to meet deadlines • Strong analytical skills that can quickly identify trends and consequences • Strong communication skills that are effective in communicating with senior management, auditors, departments and staff • Demonstrated adherence to regulations, laws, policies and procedures Essential Qualifications: • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting and leadership experience with a preference for someone with a CPA or CMA designation • Experience with internal control design, State Cost Principles and GAAP, preference for someone with DMHAS or DDS reporting • Expert Microsoft Excel skills required including pivot tables and VLOOKUP's • Strong computer skills including implementing new systems and comfort with import/export protocols • Must be able to commute to New Haven and work on-site Company Benefits Include: • Competitive Wages • 401(k) - with company match up to 3.5% • Medical, Dental, and Vision • FSA and Dependent Care Accounts • Company-Sponsored Employee Assistance Program • Company Sponsored Life, AD&D and LTD • Colonial Supplemental Insurance • Vacation, PTO & Sick time for eligible FT 40 & PT employees • Connecticut Paid Sick Time for all employees up to 40 hours a year • 12 Company Holidays Paid at Double Time (hourly employees)
