As an Adjunct Professor in the School of Transportation, you will teach, develop materials and experiences, and manage a classroom and lab facility that provides students with the basic skills that are required to enter the automotive industry as a technician in a dealership, independent shop or fleet facility using the standards put forth by LWTech and the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation. (NATEF) The ideal candidate will be able to combine technical expertise with supportive and collaborative learning attitudes and behavioral modeling that is formative to our students' success. Managing lab facilities and budgets to sustain the program and working as part of a collaborative team with other faculty and staff are key components in this position. This position reports to the program dean. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPlan and develop a variety of instructional objectives and experiences appropriate to the auto repair program goals. Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments; provide individual academic/vocational guidance and advising to students. Develop and teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college and the department. For employment in the automotive technology field. Develop and teach lessons which foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination. Develop classroom and laboratory procedures, including safety, in accordance with identified local, state, and federal policies and procedures; assume and share responsibility for educational facilities and equipment made available. Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet High School grading requirements. Follow disciplinary procedures, as prescribed in college policy, and deal consistently and fairly with all students. Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual students. Participate in self-improvement activities and staff development in the assigned instructional area and technical field. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of their area and relate specific applications to industry. Develop and maintain industry and/or community support for automotive repair and transportation programs by attending advisory committee meetings and maintaining current skills and knowledge. Develop, expand, revise, and update effective program materials; assist with program management. Work with advisors, special needs faculty, and academic faculty to identify general education learning needs for students in order to meet those needs. Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality. Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (currently Canvas) QUALIFICATIONSAAS degree in Automotive Technology from an accredited college. Master's level Automotive Service Excellence Certification (ASE). Two years full-time related industry work experience required. Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certificate required within 6 months. Knowledge and experience in current transportation technology related to automotive diagnosis and repair; knowledge and skills must be in all phases of the occupation including the following topics; engines, drive trains, suspension systems, fuel systems and electrical/electronic computer systems, EV, Hybrid and Alternative Fuel vehicles. Hold or be eligible to obtain a state vocational certificate to teach in the automotive trade area within 6 months. Adult instruction experiences preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must demonstrate computer competency and be committed to customer service. Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations. Quarters are 10-12 weeks depending on the quarter. Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.
