Business Manager Location: Odyssey Day School, Wakefield, MA Status: Full-Time / Year-Round Reports to: Head of School The Opportunity Odyssey Day School is seeking a versatile, detail-oriented Business Manager to oversee our financial health and operational efficiency. As a small school, we value a leader who can manage a $2 million+ budget with precision while also being a collaborative member of our community. Whether you are presenting a financial audit to the Board or coordinating with local Wakefield vendors, you are the backbone that allows our teachers to focus on teaching and our students to focus on learning. Pillar Key Duties Finance Managing tuition billing/collections (AP/AR), payroll, annual budgeting, and financial reporting for the Board. Human Resources Overseeing employee benefits, maintaining personnel files, and managing employment contracts. Operations Managing vendor relationships, overseeing facilities maintenance, and ensuring school safety protocols. Compliance Handling non-profit filings (Form 990), insurance renewals, and coordinating the annual audit. Detailed Expectations Financial Stewardship: Provide the Head of School and Board with accurate, real-time data to support strategic decisions. Tuition & Financial Aid: Administer the financial aid process and work empathetically with families on tuition payment plans. Facilities Oversight: Coordinate with local contractors for building repairs and ensure the campus (especially during those New England winters) is safe and welcoming. Strategic Planning: Assist in long-term capital planning for campus improvements or endowment growth. Qualifications & Skills Experience: 5+ years in business management, ideally in a non-profit or educational setting. Technical Savvy: Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel (advanced), and school management software (e.g., Blackbaud, FACTS, or Alma). Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required. The "Independent School" Mindset: You must be comfortable in a "small-office" environment where no task is too small and discretion is paramount.
