This role oversees both major and small-scale transit capital projects, guiding the development of engineering designs, specifications, and technical reports. The supervisor also supports project managers in establishing project budgets and schedules and conducts quality control reviews of consultant prepared designs. We are looking for an innovative, collaborative leader who will serve as the resource manager for the structural engineering group, providing clear direction, thoughtful assignments, coaching, and mentorship to a growing team. In addition to team leadership, this position plays a key role in supporting capital projects and transit planners with planning level engineering expertise for integrated, multimodal transportation facilities. Recruitment Information: This recruitment will be used to fill one Special Duty Assignment with an anticipated duration of two years. The actual duration may vary based on the discretion of the supervisor. In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future SDA vacancies that may occur in this classification within the Capital Division. The eligibility pool will be retained for 12 months from the date it is established and may be extended or used at the discretion of the hiring authority. As a Structural Engineering Supervisor, you will also: Lead and grow the work group to support Metro's vision and the growing Capital program. Develop scopes of work, level of effort estimates, deliverables and bid evaluation criteria for consultant and/or construction contracting requirements. Plan and assign workloads and develop staffing plans for assigned projects. Lead continuous improvement of workflows, governance and standard work products in coordination with other Metro Transit and King County teams. Ensure compliance with King County, state and federal policies, procedures and regulations. Provide technical and contractual support on contracts, claims, and agreements. Perform additional duties in support of capital projects. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license. Candidates licensed outside Washington must obtain Washington State PE licensure within six months of hire through reciprocity. Experience 8-10 years as a design structural engineer with demonstrated success working on multi-disciplinary engineering projects. Experience in structural engineering related to building and transportation structures. Experience with AutoCAD and Revit Structure. Experience with SAP2000, STAAD, ADAPT PT, RISA 3D, or other structural design/analyses programs. Strong analytical skills and knowledge of sound engineering principles. Ability to direct and oversee production of construction contract documents. Ability to develop technical and budget documents for technical and non-technical audiences. Increasingly responsible experience leading or supervising projects and teams. Proven ability to support and mentor a team. Ability to assess team strengths and adjust support and oversight appropriately. Strong coordination and team-building skills; ability to work across disciplines, divisions, and stakeholder teams. Ability to articulate engineering and design concepts to internal and external stakeholders. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work and meet defined timelines. Demonstrated creativity, independent decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in both office and industrial environments including climbing stairs and ladders, accessing roof and platform-mounted equipment, and entering confined spaces. Ability to work at on-street passenger facilities including urban streets, busy intersections, and undeveloped sites in remote parts of King County. Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Civil3D, GIS, Revit (BIM), Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Bluebeam, Teams and standard web browsers. Valid Washington State driver's license (or ability to obtain by hire date) and/or ability to travel to multiple worksites. Desired Qualifications (not required): Active Structural Engineer (SE) License. Experience performing economic life-cycle cost analysis including cost estimating. Working knowledge in Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Standard Specifications. Extensive knowledge of structural, OCS, and geotechnical engineering principles. General understanding of traffic and transportation engineering principles. Experience managing and designing multiple high profile complex projects simultaneously. Knowledge of land use codes and parking standards across local jurisdictions. Experience working effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Work Schedule: Our regular business hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. However, work outside of these hours may occasionally be required.
