Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial Date Posted: 10/1/2025 Location: Hoover-Schrum School District 157 HOOVER-SCHRUM MEMORIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT 157 JOB DESCRIPTION: Maintenance WorkerJOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure the upkeep, safety, and functionality of school district facilities and grounds. This role involves routine maintenance, repairs, and collaborative work with custodial staff and other departments to support a conducive learning environment. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: General Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and perform maintenance on building systems, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. Repairs: Address and repair issues related to plumbing leaks, electrical malfunctions, broken fixtures, and structural components. Equipment Installation: Assemble and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed. Preventive Maintenance: Implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the longevity and efficiency of building systems and equipment. Safety Compliance: Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards within the facilities and grounds. Snow Removal: Participate in snow and ice removal to maintain safe access to school facilities during winter months. Collaboration: Work closely with custodians, faculty, and the Director of Buildings and Grounds to coordinate maintenance activities and respond promptly to maintenance requests. Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education or training in a related field is a plus. Experience: Prior experience in maintenance, electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, or as a car mechanic is highly desirable. Skills: Proficiency in using hand and power tools. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Requirements: Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in various environmental conditions. Preferred Qualifications: Certification or formal training in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems. Experience in a school or educational facility setting. Valid driver's license. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in regard to all interactions with all staff, bank representatives, vendors, and parents. Qualifications Profile Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: High School diploma or equivalent. Prior successful clerical experience preferred. RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervised by and reports directly to the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor with indirect reporting to the Chief School Business Officials and Superintendent.
