Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Install and maintain complex networks linking multiple computing platforms, operating systems, and network topologies across broad geographic areas. Evaluate hardware and software suited for large complex networks. Install, maintain, and upgrade network interface programs. Monitor and uphold security procedures. Manage network performance and ensure reliability. Troubleshoot and resolve intricate issues to maintain uninterrupted mission-critical applications. Maintain fault-tolerant systems and manage system backups effectively. Recommend enhancements in methods or procedures as needed. As an intern Network Engineer at the Battle Lab, you will play a vital role in designing, deploying, and maintaining advanced network environments for testing and experimentation. Collaborating with senior engineers, you will engage in configuring network devices, troubleshooting issues, monitoring performance, and ensuring reliable, secure connectivity across lab systems. You will coordinate and assist with routing and switching tasks, network security activities, vulnerability scanning using tools like Qualys, and the documentation of network designs and FedRAMP aligned boundaries. Join cross-functional teams to improve processes and contribute to the Battle Lab's mission by enabling resilient and high-performance network capabilities. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years of relevant experience. Ability to work on problems of moderate scope, requiring analysis of various data factors. Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions. Build productive internal/external working relationships. Length of Program: 31-60 Days (60 days) Total Number of Weeks: 8 Week 1: Introduction to Maximus & Network Operations - Learn company structure, network operations, workflows, and tools (Salesforce). Week 2: Maximus Enterprise Infrastructure Overview - Understand core networking concepts: TCP/IP, OSI, VLANs, routing basics, DNS/DHCP. Week 3: Routing & Switching Technologies - Apply routing/switching concepts: OSPF, BGP basics, STP, trunking, EtherChannel. Week 4: Network Security & Access Control - Learn firewalls, ACLs, VPNs, Qualys scanning, and FedRAMP boundary requirements. Week 5: Network Monitoring, Tools, & Troubleshooting - Use monitoring tools (SolarWinds, etc.) and Salesforce for incident tracking. Week 6: Wireless Networking & Unified Communications - Understand wireless standards, controllers, AP provisioning, VoIP, and QoS basics. Week 7: Cloud & Virtual Networking Technologies - Learn cloud networking (AWS/Azure), SD WAN, virtualization, and cloud security tools.
